Well my first "proper" guitar was a rather battered Les Paul Custom that my brother taxed, spent a fortune on it and turned it into a string ladened beast capable of causing some serious damage when plugged into an equally beastly amp :)

Well Cool!!!

At the tender age of 12 (or maybe it was 13) I was working for my dad at his auto garage (Union 76) pumping gas and doing tire work making 50¢/hr. which he thought was highway robbery. With my first month paycheck I bought a Kent Strat copy. I had never heard of Kent guitars before and have never seen another since. Truth be told it was a POS in retrospect but at the time I was as cool as James Dean just for having it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
