We buy twice a week. PowerBall and Megamillions. I get four chances on each ticket and I don't pay the extra for the boost. Then I do the occasional scratch-off. My wife also likes to play her own sets of numbers.

But I am retired and we don't owe anyone except ourselves a damn cent so we play the games. Trust me, if it was a burden at all, we would not do it. 8)

I spend maybe $10 a month, that I don't miss and it is fun.

I won $1,800 about 20 years ago, so I'm not using the houses money any more.

Tonight is $50 big ones, plus a bunch of pidley $1mil prizes (yea right). Got two tickets, a free one from last week and bought another.

New fenders all round!

Good luck all!

I heard a quote recently, went something like:

"Winning the lottery is like throwing Miracle-Gro on all your character defects."

I believe it was from someone who won big.

While buying lottery tickets is by definition a form of gambling I don't see it in the same light as the video lottery terminals or slot machines. With lottery tickets you pay your several dollars or whatever and you wait a week for the draw and do it again. You'd have to be AWFULLY poor to ruin your life playing lotteries. (except for that fool in Toronto a number of years back who mortgaged his house to buy thousands of lotterey tickets and didn't even win one thin dime, LOL!!)

Video gambling on the other hand, now that's a different story. Whether you call them slot machines or video lottery machines or whatever, I've watched guys have a weeks pay sucked right out of them in a couple of hours. That's destructive. That's a tax for the stupid. That's when the old lady gives you what for and hopefully you don't start on the downward spiral.

My Dad won when I was still in high school (late '70s). He was part of a syndicate of 5 on a week where they had a record number of winners (the number has gone up since).

He and Mum ended up with $8,000 and took a holiday. But the letter Dad wrote to his boss while he was waiting to find out he much he won got thrown out

We go in with others on the super big jackpots, but usually don't play on a regular basis.

I can honestly say I never have as the only way I'd buy one is if I knew I'd win.

Like my father used to say about money: "If you can't afford to lose it, you can't afford to gamble it."

Good luck! I bought a couple by proxy today. But most times when I fill up my truck and there is money returned then I play a dollar.

I know your next question is how could you have money left over when buying gas. Although my Ranger is pretty economical it does not have a gas guage that works. Therefore, I must fill up when making long trips to make sure I don't go empty. Usually $10 or $20 dollars will do.

Why don't I use a credit/debit card? I don't really know. I guess I don't trust machines with my money.

Oh, I want a Fender Deville Amp please :)

I like the smell of tubes burning in the morning!

Once i learned that a persons odds of winning the big one, is something like the chances of getting hit by lightning, i never buy any.

I have been known to buy a ticket or two. I recently was playing the Mega, Powerball and NYS lottery. Didn't win anything though, hence the lack of high end Fenders in my house!!!
