Chester Auther Burnett born on this day in 1910. Lets see that would make this his 100th birthday! I'm talking of course about Howlin' Wolf...

I was fortunate enough to be front row center when I saw Howlin' Wolf in concert at our university in the mid 70s.The Wolf was always on of my greatest idols and to see him up close was like a religious experience.Unfortunately Hubert Sumlin's flight got fogbound and a local guitarist had to fill in(a musician buddy of mine who was in the student's union that sponsored the concert told me that I should have since I knew every song and Hubert riff by heart).Mr. Burnett looked pleased and amused when he was singing Sittin' On Top Of The World and saw the young white faces of my friends and me with tears streaming down our cheeks-he could belt out a song with more emotion and feeling than anyone ever before or since.The world will never hear a voice that could compare to Chester Burnett.
