Ceri, I was driving to a Tree nursery to buy a Serviceberry tree to put out back and figured I would listen to the match on the hour ride. With that noise there was no way to enjoy it on the radio.

Drove me flippin' insane watching the TV, so I turned down and put on some nice music while they played. Much better!

BTW: just Googled it - that's a very pretty tree. In flower round about now, I'm guessing? Over this side we have something called a Service Tree. Also nice - but completely different...

Cheers - C
Yes it is a native tree around here so the State has a coupon that you can print getting you 25.00 off the cost. We bought a small one in a ten gallon pot for 69.00 minus 25.00 The money was given to Maryland to be used for environmental purposes in a energy company settlement so they come up with a list of native trees they want people to plant, thats were the coupon money comes from. It is a great tree for birds.

Let us not make this a South Africa instrument alone. A vuvuzela is now an international instrument. People buy them and stuff them in their suitcase to go home.

No-o-o-o-o-o-o!!!

:x - C

I have to disagree with Rich, I have been to matches all over South America and worked for one of the top futbol clubs in SA for several years and NEVER seen more than 5 vuvuzelas at a match, and that instance was ONE time. Disagree about the worldwide appeal. One would have to think if that was true then the major leagues in Europe would have them and I haven't seen or heard them in all my years watching the Euro leagues either.

Haven't seen them in games around here (I'm in Recife-Brazil). People bring brass instruments and percussions instead (you need a special authorization for that) hehe! But at least, they play real music (Frevo specially), not a non-stop annoying noise. What's sad is that one of the vuvuzela's factories from S. Africa is already negotiating their exportation to Brazil's World Cup in 2014 NOOOOOO  !!! I really hope they get banned :x though the noise on the TV doesn't bother me much, will be certainly awful to have thousands around me blowing those things for 90 minutes...

Maybe they could export the vuvuzelas to In-ger-land for cricket and polo matches.

Yes I am. I love soccer. I've watched it since I was about five. I'm probably in the minority of Americans on that but I do. I follow Liverpool usually...but of course I want to see America do well at the Cup. I'm watched nearly every game so far. The Netherlands seem to be hot as does Germany.

Edited post to add that I agree the horns must stop...or at least limit to when a goal is made...

It all comes down to what you like so far as sport is concerned. Many people dislike Hockey and find it boring as well, myself being one of them. I have a respect for what they do in the sport but it is just painful to watch, though I am not going to bad mouth it because millions of people enjoy it and ad the end of the day sport is a good thing regardless of what event it is.

In the end however, futbol, football, futebol, soccer, regardless of what it is called remains the most popular sport in the world. SO no matter how many "soccer is boring" comments get made, you are outnumbered.

Hey i didn't mean to make anyone mad , i don't care for hockey either, just making the point because they are similar. I love baseball , i get that it is incredibly boring to some people , thank God we are all different and have different taste. I am just saying if they changed some of the rules I think people in America would like it more, I know, I know everybody else in the world loves it , well why is it that after 25 years or so is it still not a mainstream sport, there should be a Monday night soccer game on abc. My opinion, may be outnumbered on this thread but I can promise you not on this forum. Take a poll and see!
