Yeah, a few years back, channel 4 and 5 on UK tv showed games from around the world, very early in the morning. European leagues, South American games and North American. It is from that, I picked up on the americanisms that have leaked into the game, I don't mind it personally, kind of got used to it. Did sound a bit odd at first though, hearing somebody call a penalty a pk. 4 and 5 don't do it anymore which is a pity, I used to enjoy that and it kept me up with the world game.
They must bring it back!! :D

Please excuse the brash nature of my previous posts. I had a few jars lastnight. Honestly no offence intended.

BCB Germany have been limiting their international players for years. They saw the problem decades ago.

Rhumba, I agree with you mate. I particularly enjoy watching south American teams. Their play is a thing of beauty, total reliance on skill as opposed to power.

This is true. And another interesting thing: although our league is by far the richest in the world, the German Bundesliga is actually more profitable on a percentage basis. Because so proportionately much of our league's wealth goes into the eye-watering pay packets of the players.

That might be all right - if they could actually get the flippin' ball in the net!!!

What's Rooney's annual income...?

Cheers - C

According to my opo sat here hes on about £6.2 million a year ! Jeeze for that money we should be able to find some footballers in Brazil and give em a Rooney makeover, (butt ugly and ignorant) and send em out.

A few p/take jokes are doing the rounds, one is of the poster to a famous film with Robert Redford / Meryl Streep etc etc with all the names suitably changed entitled ..............

yep "Out of Africa" hehe.

Yeah - and I bet that doesn't include all the endorsement and merchandising, does it? Which often adds up to a helluvalot more than the mere wages.

Still, the bankability of stuff with Rooney's name and face on it likely just took a big dive, didn't it?

Got a link to that Out of Africa poster, BTW?

Cheers - C

Meantime, gotta say, I blame myself for the whole debacle. It would all have been so different if Rio Ferdinand had been playing. (OK, it wouldn't - but go with me on this one...)

Ferdinand as we know comes from Peckham (where the snow leopards roam). I saw him in the street just the other week and yelled across at him: "Yo Rio! Break a leg, man!!"

Who knew he'd take me so seriously?

I am not watching, to be honest I do not care at all. Watching a couple of adults? running after a ball......, I am not interested.

However I like the world cup, whenever Holland is playing it is so nice and quit outside, it is great.

Hey Ceri, You just got to look at Portsmouth last season, or should I say, what came to the forefront of their financial situation last season.
I remember someone coming out with some kind of statement, that the actual players wages, took up 80% of the clubs profits.

'Zactly! In fact, you know what? I believe Wayne Rooney and his buddies are responsible for the whole recession!

BTW: The media was discussing Ed Balls going for the leadership of his party - and someone remarked: " 'Ed Balls? That's pretty much Wayne Rooney's job description..."
