i think it all boils down to hunger. Hunger for success, hunger for the trophy.
Being an underdog can either make you hungrier, or you just give up.

Ghana is one of the underdogs of Africa.
The USA is definitely an underdog on the international scene. Look at the way they upset England. lol. That was funny.

USA definitely has what it takes.

This world cup has been laced with upsets. France being defeated by South Africa? Italy being defeated by Slovakia? Unheard of!

These guys aren't as sharp or hungry as before.

Ghana is rated 32 in the world and only behind 4 other African teams. I wouldn't call them an underdog in Africa. Maybe S Africa, Cameroon, Gabon or Uganda but not Ghana. Hell they were even playing without Essien and that made a huge difference. if he had been playing this game would have been much different, although we can play the what if game. Their current rating reflects their play without him and lets not forget their U-20 hold the World Cup for that age bracket, of which this team was primarily made up of.

And the USA is #14 in the WORLD. To say they are underdogs is incorrect. They didn't upset England, they TIED on a goal that was GIVEN to them by Robert Green. They weren't even that big of an underdog in the ENG considering how poorly Eng plays historically in the opening game. They are far from underdogs although it sounds good after a loss and exit. It is our Defense and lack of consistency on the back line that continues to let us down along with strikers who fail to capitalize on great scoring opportunities.

They have what it takes to make it to the world cup in a weak CONCACAF qualifying and are getting better, but truthfully the realistic US fan says they did well to get to the knockout round. Algeria and Slovenia weren't pushovers at all.

Just keeping it in perspective.

Congrats to Ghana, they were the better team today and deserved the win. Congrats to the USMNT for making it this far and not quitting in group play.

I have great hopes for England. Personaly I think their poor perfomance is a tactical thing and that they will let the cat out of the bag tommorow against Germany.
Atleast thats what I'm hoping, because their performance was utterly dire in both games. They played like a school side.

Well theres gotta be some kind of diabloical scheme involved for a national side that employs a foreign manager. Am I just too skeptical to see that there may be a conflict of intrests on Capello's part.

Anyhow we always have the best songs.

Personaly I'd like to see Capello sacked and Redknap given the job. How can any governing body expect a Swedish or Italian person to have the same passion for the England national side as a home grown manager. [/url]

called a Vuvuzela, it is a horn that is blown at all the African nations games and is quite annoying for football fans anywhere else in the world.

Ah! I'm back, I lost my connection last night I couldn't post for some reason.
Well, I thought the USA would have won that, I called that one wrong but they did have a lot of good chances and couldn't put them away. I was expecting that US 'will to win' to kick in during the second half and carry them through but they didn't have enough this time.
Ghana played well, they have a young, strong, fit side that are going to cause anyone problems. Is it Uruguay next? that will be interesting.
Well done though to the USA they played well and so nearly....could have gone either way.

England today, I think we can do it....ah!! hang on, haven't I said that before somewhere. I'll give them one of my special team talks and if we play in red....yes red!.....such a lucky colour for us.....and we always beat the Germans when we play in red.
Yes!! I think, if we play in red, we will win.

Sorry Lite'nin but did you drink all your beers at least? I'll have mine set up today.

Ahaaa bad luck fellas, it was just a game too far for the US by the way what is USMNT ?

As for England i was beginning to get quite hopeful, like Niki says were just lulling the opposition into a false sense of superiority 8) but then i see the game predicting octupus (yeah you read that right) is saying the Germans are going to win. To think he was actually born just off Weymouth what a shocker!!!

Time will tell.............. :)

Got an idea England could pull it off today, that German superiority thing may just be their downfall in this game, Beckenbauers comments earlier this week might come back to haunt him, this isn't one of the more experianced German sides, think he may be heeping all the pressure on a youngish team, going for an England win, still waiting on Rooney to get off the mark, he'll be champing at the bit to get at the Germans

USMNT= United States Mens National Team, what they are typically refered to in soccer circles

Although I can't concede that it was bad luck. It was a prpduct of too much hype and our players buying into playing the game on paper and thinking we SHOULD beat Ghana since we are #14 in the world and they are #32. We looked past our opponent and now we are going home, and that includes the team and our media and fools like Alexi Lalas.

Well what a utter farce the England side are.

Talentless, lacklustre, uninterested, unthinking, witless, just doing it for the money, nothings.

The answer, bring on Joe Cool and that lumbering ox that has never done anything since his days a leicester, Hesky. What a joke, what a utter badly managed farce.

Not joking you, my old schoolside played better than that twenty four years ago.

The only chance we have is to ditch the entire team, forget about international competition for atleast thirty years. Limit the amount of foreign players in the national game to no more than ten. (I'm sick of our teams training other countries players for em). Get back to good home grown players. Finaly sack that clown Copello, send gerard rooney and upson with him. Utterly useless halfwitted braindead morons.

Germany didn't even play well. Forget about Lampards disallowed goal, it pales to insignificance compared to the other two German goals.

I'm off now to get drunk and start a fight.

To make matters worse Copello is on TV now insisting the side played well. What a utter joke. Stubborn buffoon.
