Any one ever build a pedal from a kit ? I just ordered one a JTM45 distortion pedal just wandering if anyone else has built them. I plan to eventually build a amp . I have a background in industrial electronics but I haven't done any electronics work in over 20 years I'm currently a class 8 truck mechanic so it should be fun.

How about starting a pedal build thread. Photos, cats, adult beverages, tips on soldering techniques, occasional misfires and clever repairs. It might inspire others to build their own.

You'll have a blast. I've built a few of these pedal kits from BYOC.
http://www.buildyourownclone.com/

One I liked so much I bought another one and modded it. It's the British Blues Overdrive. It's a Marshall Bluesbreaker clone. The original circuit sounds great with Humbucker pups but a little bright for my taste for single coils and P-90's. You just need to change a few caps to get more range out of the tone control and get a wider range of distortion. I've also built some from scratch and etched my own boards from Craig Anderton's book.

Just take your time and double check everything before you power it up. Be sure any transistors or IC chips are oriented the correct way.

Have fun!

Do you have any electronic parts suppliers locally? I paid $7 for parts to build 2 EH Muff Fuzz pedals.

Hi alan: I remember seeing stomp box enclosures in Maplins a long time back. Not a shop I go in often, but I think they offer all the makings...

Ive built 2 of the byoc jobs this year, the first was the reverb, 1 dry joint

and sorted, found the graphics harder than the build.
The second was the Overdrive 2 pedal no probs either, think its a tube screamer TS 8 ? clone

Well worth the time great fun, only naff bit is they eat batteries and the psu jacks are a bit weak.

:)

Hum..its been a while since I've been to maplins.....might have to pop in and see what they have. Quite fancy making a treble booster.

Guitar and Bass mag has adverts for pedal kits for about £35-£50. Mail order jobbys

Andy

Oooh - haven't seen that. Interesting, thanks.

Like Alan says, the price of importing across the Atlantic kind of cancels out half the point of DIY.

Cheers - C

EDIT: Actually, does this advert mention a website, by any chance, please...?
