Okay, found a gift card and want to get an amp.

It's a Peavey 30w. It's the last one they have and it's a floor model. It's already marked down 25% and the guy said that the manager will be in tomorrow so I can dicker down more for a deal since it is a floor model. (the 'leather' is a little beat up on the amp which I pointed out which led to the 'floor model' discussion)

What's the going percentage rate for a floor model? What would you consider a good deal for getting a floor model amp?

It's 199 plus 25% off. How much extra would you ask for?

I'm going tomorrow (Thursday) so I need help fast, please.

Also, I'm also going to ask about if anything is wrong with it, what the policy is. Any suggestions? Other questions I should ask? (PS--I'm bringing my guitar in to try it out again)

Try 130.00 and ask about the warranty, it should still be good. Luck to you.......... 8) Mike

I bought a Vox from (gulp) Guitar Center does that count?
Anyways.....If it sounds good to you and has a good tone(clean and dirty) that you like go for it! Make sure to check everything out(knobs for any odd noises)and dont be afraid to crank it up as if you own it...cause it sounds like you just might! Cosmetics usually dont bother me much when it comes to the amp, but i'm not you and you may get an additional discount if you play that card. I dont know what model you are looking at but you might check other music stores online and see what they charge for the same model as a baseline. Whatever you do, just dont settle!!!
hope I helped in some way
good luck!

In April of 2008 I was offered a DRRI "floor demo model" at the local GC for $650 + tax. Re-issue Jensen C12K and full mfr warranty. The amp looked like it had been beaten like a rented mule. Next to it was a used mid-90s DRRI with the Eminence 12 -- no warranty but in near-mint condition for six bills out the door. I bought the used amp and never regretted it.

Hi Lady V, If it's new and has a warranty why not.. Did you spend time playing it? So if you like it.... well you know what to do

I think it's new. It's got a little rippage in the fake leather, but nothing a little glue couldn't fix. It's the last one they have, and I have played a little on it. I'm no expert on amps though. But I figure if it has a lot of things to experiment with, then it'll be good for me.

When I started playing again last year, I didn't know what to think.I' The guy at the mom and pop store said I would 'get over the hump' after about three months or so. Then I'll know if I'll keep up with it. It's been about a year now, and I love it.

Try the amp out, if it works fine it should be okay. Try to get a seven day return policy on it. It used to be all you ever bought were floor models. My Strat came off the wall, my Vibrolux, Bandmaster, Twin and a bunch of other stuff came off the floor too. That was a long time ago before any wanker could pull a guitar off the wall plug into any amp and abuse the snot out of it. They used to have signs that said "You Scratch It, You Bought it".
The amp is pretty enough. Try to take him down to $150 with the discount.

Well, I didn't get it. Epic fail. The manager wouldn't even haggle for a lower price. He would only give me the sale price. I explained to him that I know it was the sale price, but it is a floor model and slightly damaged so I wanted a lower price for it. He got real pissy about it. He gave me the 'well you ARE getting it on sale' and the dirty look. I just said okay and walked out. He was a real jerk off. I mean come on, it was a floor model, the last one, and a bit damaged. To me, 25% sale price was not enough for me (considering that the other amps are 25% off NEW).

Besides, didn't like the amp the next time I played on it anyway. It was too flighty. So I'll be looking over the summer for a better amp and better service somewhere else or just suck it up and go online.

No worries. You're entitled to say what you want. Speak your mind! :D Don't be quiet on any account.

Over here, 199 is standard for the peavey 30 vypyr amp. To pay 169 to me was a rip off. The 25% discount was given to the new amps. This amp was obviously not new. It was beaten up, used floor model. Over here at least, it's pretty common to get an additional discount for used merchandise (I've talked to other people outside of here who agree with me on this so I know I'm not losing it. LOL). The manager would not give me the discount for used merchandise. I would pay 169 gladly for a new amp but not a used, beat up one. To me, it was like he was passing it off as new with just a regular discount. Plus, the manager's attitude was like he was doing me a favor and got mad when I asked him about a used merchandise discount, like I should take any bone that was thrown at me. That attitude more than anything made me walk. It was not like, "I'm sorry but the discount is all that we're offering right now." It was more like a "how dare you ask me such a stupid question." Even the worker at the counter looked like he was embarrassed.

Sorry for the long story. I hope you understand why I didn't buy it. I didn't want to pay a regular discount for an obviously used piece of equipment and a sexist/bad attitude from a manager. (He waited on everyone else and when the amp had a glitch, he blamed it on me with a "what did YOU do with it." Geez)

You did the right thing. Why pay for a damaged item at a sale price??
You should have gotten a little more off for the "floor model".

"You have to be able to walk away." That's the art of negotiation...

And the attitude would have pi&&ed me off too.

You'll do better next time. Karma has a way of fixing things.
