this bar has a sign on the door that states "NO TANK TOPS". I went in one night with my friends while wearing one because I had no other shirts available, and i didnt realize they had a problem with that sort of thing. the owner's tending bar and sees me. flashes a nasty look my way and tells my buddy that i have no sleeves. luckily, my buddy had a spare t-shirt, or else i woulda been banned for the night.

so what gives? why would wearing tank tops suddenly be a cause for discrimination? i wasn't even wearing a wife beater, it was the regular sleeveless top, aka "tank top".

i didnt bother asking about it because i was too annoyed to care and he didnt even express his distaste to me personally, instead he talked to someone else about it, which makes no sense. but i am curious why this might be an issue for bar's. who cares what shirt i'm wearing?

so i don't shave my armpits, big deal, is that the problem at hand? i say "don't shave, save the rainforests" 8)

Yep, Yep, Yep. I have bars around me like that. A couple around me have no swearing and guys have to remove hats and no doo rags. I kind of like it.

Silly rule for sure, but the owner should make the rules.....like smoking and swearing and hats, etc.

I don't find it silly. Whats wrong with watching your mouth and having some respect? Same with smoking. I smoked for over 25 years and I'm glad that's gone too.

There's plenty of dives around where you can smoke, swear, wear what you want and buy drugs and hookers too. I used to play in plenty of places like that.LOL I don't miss it.

I think it is great! Nothing worse than having folks with foul mouths, cigarette smoke choking me and hairy smelly pits in my face...LOL Seriously if those are the rules then well, it is easier to obey them and enjoy than make a fuss about it.

I wish the "No Swearing" rule was in a lot more places. Its a pet peeve of mine when people in restaurants swear around children. Even if i'm not even with my kids. Its just rude in my opinion. Yeah sure... free speech and all that but have some class.

As for the arm pits... yeah eff all that too.

We used to play a bar in a neighboring town where the owner didn't want musicians drinking on stage,we didn't like it but there was no better place around here in the sticks.
It was his bar and his rules.

yea, i dig the fact that its his bar, not mine. his rules, not mine. however, it is summertime, and this past weekend saw temperatures in the 90's. im not whining, but people do wear sleeveless tops in the heat. its not unusual, people have been wearing them since long before i entered this world. why someone has to change something so odd like that all of a sudden makes me wonder. it's like he's rebelling against something or starting a movement. seriously? come on...

I think that while your top may have been a more acceptable version of a tank top the owner doesn't want that turning into Jersey Shore wife beaters. If you ban shirts like yours then you don't have to argue about what's acceptable when someone over the top comes in.

those people can wear their sleeveless tops at the bar up the street if they don't like the rule. he isn't starting any movements or rebelling against anything, he is setting the rules for his establishment and should have every right to do so. if people don't like his rule they won't go to his bar and in the end it will only hurt him via loss of business. nothing wrong with this rule at all regardless of the temperatures or who he offends.
