In the song "Spooky" by The Atlanta Rhythm Section or the Classics V, theres a chord that is eluding me. We're doing the song in D minor. It's the chord in every verse as the words are "I get confused cause I don't know where I stand, but then you smile and (chord) hold my hand".
The chord provided in some sheet music and tabs doesn't sound right. Anybody know this?

I remember working on Spooky some time back and having a little trouble
sorting it out. There are a couple of reasons for the confusion and what
appears like bad tab all over the 'net.

Note that The Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Classics V each play the
tune in a different key. I think The ARS plays in Emin and Classics V play in Fmin.

Also, The ARS version modulates up to Fmin for the guitar solo and stays
there until the end of the tune.

In Emin, I think the chord you are looking for consists of E-G-A#.
The A# is kind of discordant and dominates. That is what I would play on
the bass. Perhaps, the chord is really A#-E-G. I'm not sure; it's an odd chord.
For Fmin, it would be F-Ab-B.
For Dmin, it would be D-F-Ab.

I don't know what you call the chord. If I tried to name it, I would probably
get it wrong so I just provided what I believe are the correct notes.

We play that tune in Dm as well and I believe Warnergt is correct. I think the final chord at the end of the progression is an Fm(diminished).

Here are the chords we use for Fm (classics IV)
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/c/c ... ky_crd.htm

the chord you are referring to would be Bdim7 (in Fm)... and the last chord to end the chorus is Cm7 (in Fm)

Yes, I believe you nailed it.
The dim7 chord consists of 1-b3-b5-6(bb7).

For Fm (Classics V), it would be Bdim7 (B-D-F-G#).
For Em (first half of Atlanta Rhythm Section), it would be A#dim7 (A#-C#-E-G).
For Dm (what you play), it would be G#dim7 (G#-B-D-F).
