Hi Nevin, don't be embarassed over their mistake. Do you have a union? What do they have to say about this? I have heard stories like yours, they all happened in big working places (industries, government) so I'm guessing that anyone at your working place is likely to know that stuff like that happens from time to time and they won't judge you. Either you go for it and fight them to get it back, or you let it go and move on to something else. We'll support you in whatever you choose to do. Don't let them play with your mind. Your peace of mind is more precious than their lousy human resources management. Thank you for this rant, in doing so you prove that you have real human qualities. I wish you the best that can happen to you right now. Good luck. :)

Isn't it wierd how in your head "everything happens for a reason" can sound just like "anything can happen witha razor" lol.

Dude, Nevin, bro, the world is full of idiots, you are not one of them. (my drunk Irish family takes up 80%) Don't let a bunch of morons ruin your good vibes. Take a deep breath and then start looking for a newer, better opportunity.

Postive mental attitude bro, it can do wonders! So can some serious guitar venting time. Turn the amp to 11 and make it happen :D

So I started a new position at work. I work a couple jobs at the hospital, and my newest position is/was "Ward Clerk" This will explain what the job is so I don't have to.
http://www.calmis.ca.gov/file/occguide/clerkwrd.htm
So I have been training at it for three days, when I get an email ( ) saying that my qualifications do not match what is needed to perform the duties! I will need to take a 35 week course ($ 4,945.00 dollars) within 2 years.

I have already taken then course that they are questioning, it is just that my course is not on their acceptable list of courses.

Basically I would be taking the course all over again just to make them happy. It is very hard to explain.
The worst thing is that I actually was really interested in this job and a few people told me I was doing really well at it. So depressing. It was a nice little increase in pay also.

Nevin1985, this is were you have to, write the letter explaining that you have taken the expensive training course and why they should give you credit for the course, then request a letter on school letter head from the department at the not accredited school (it won't be their 1st request of this type) give that as well, determination and genuine interest are good characteristic's so word these request's and letters carefully, thoughtfully, short but not too short and to the point, these opportunities to communicate your ability to solve and understand the process are priceless, almost like a new employee. Explain that you would be willing to take a proficiency exam ( this may be titled something else in your area ) which you would pass because you have done your homework, good luck, let us know what happens.

Is there someone in that department you have an "in" with that can testify on your behalf that you are a good fit and enthusiastic about the position? I'm not sure how it works there as i am not in that field, but if i had a potential employee that showed the drive, I'd find a way to get him or her hired. You can teach a skillset, work ethic is an entirely different story and a seemingly rare thing these days.

Good luck to you.

I think there's a lot in this and the rest of what SBLS says, as well as captainc's remark about an employee showing drive making himself attractive to an employer.

If you've essentially done the course before, could it not be that you just need to do the final exam or whatever of the recognised version to show you are up to scratch? Since this whole thing is a Human Resource Dept mistake it would be reasonable of them to work with you on a solution of that sort to resolve the situation.

Worth asking, anyhow.

Good luck - C

No, I wish it was that simple. They work quick... I have already been assigned new work. :?

Huh. Then it sounds like they took a keen, motivated employee and speedily turned him into a disincentivised one. How clever was that? Another sparkling achievement for Human Resources!

Nevin, let it be a screw up in their lives but not yours.

I hope you bounce back quick, man. Sounds like you're headed upwards and this is just a frustrating glitch.

Best of luck to you - C
