I change the strings when needed and usually clean the fretboard if it needs it. Thats about it, other than an occasional wipedown.

My Strat has been played hard these past couple of weeks and she's starting to look really dirty, especially with the upper strings being tarnished and all the dead skin collecting on the frets...

I wipe them down after each use and use axwax twice a year.

As for changing strings, hard to say. One or 2 guitars might go a month without being played so don't really keep to a schedule. Can't really keep track of playing time on the strings so just replace the set when one breaks or they start sounding dead. The guitar I play the most has a Floyd and hate changing the strings on it so it has to wait till one breaks or starts to sound so bad that I can't take it anymore. Been over a year now - if I changed the strings on it every few months I would have thrown it across the room long ago!

I always wipe 'em down with the yellow flannel cloth before they go into the case....lately I started using the fast fret stuff to clean the strings.
I can't stand to pick up a guitar that has grimy, rusted strings and try to play it,the strings need to feel smooth and sleek to me.
Also the back of the neck has to be clean not sticky.I like to see good honest wear not neglect.

I am obsessed with my guitars. I maintain them like this:

Daily: Wipe down and use Fender Guitar Care Mist & Wipe to get off any grime/dirt from them, and Fender Swirl and Haze Remover

Monthly: Replace strings and use Fender Polish, check intonation and neck relief adjustments as necessary

6 Months: Clean electronics and do any maintenance needed

Yearly: Full tear down and strip old polish and add new, clean electronics and re-solder anything that needs it.

Last but not least play them and treat them like I do my Awesome wife...tenderly, with respect and liek they are my best friends!

ABS :D

Hey ABS what do you do when you "clean electronics?"
