How do you care for your guitar?

I have to be honest, I'm a bit of a slacker, I only clean/polish it when it needs it, usually every 2 months. I replace the strings when one of em snaps, that normally takes ages. I know some people clean theres like, every day, i understand that, but iits not really worth it, is it??

When I'm finished playing it, I wipe it down with a Fender guitar cloth. Then in back the case.

The effort of taking care of a guitar is rather small, no? I enjoy seeing a clean, shinny guitar and am willing to put a couple of minutes into the process.

I wipe the strings down with Finger Ease as soon as I put them on the instrument (before I play it the first time). I spray the strings with Finger Ease and wipe them down every time I play.

I give the body a quick wipe down with a soft cloth and spray it with guitar poilish a couple of times a month.

I keep the guitars in (latched) hardshell cases. I wouldn't own a gig bag. Period.

I treat the rosewood fingerboards with fretboard oil about twice a year.

I play my guitars everyday and they look pretty much brand new. :)

I make sure not to put belt buckle marks or blue jean rivet marks on the back by pulling my shirttail out.

Temperature wise, I go by the "If you are uncomfortable; so is your guitar" rule.

I don't mind playing a beat up guitar, by the way, and don't go "mental" if one of mine gets a nick. I just try to give the guitars good care and enjoy myself. :)

Thats interesting, i wipe my fretboard down like, once every two months.

If my uncle even see's the tiniest dint in either of my guitar, he goes absoulutley berserk.

I wipe my guitars down after every time I use one. On the guitars with Rosewood fretboards, at least 2 times a year I lemmon oil. I change the strings every 3 to 4 weeks depending on amount of usage. I polish the 2 guitars that have glossy finishes every year or so. Needless to say my newest aquisition has not been polished yet. With every string change I put a little 3 & 1 oil on the metal moving parts.

I clean mine with a cloth when I'm finished playing, but sometimes I forget to. I change the strings every 3-4 months. Other than that I really don't pay that much attention to it.

Each of my guitars get wiped down after each use. The strings get changed every other month and they get polished every three months. I actually have a service/maintenance schedule for them. If you're good to you gear it will be good to you.

I wipe my guitars down with a cloth and polish every week if I play them a lot or expect company. I don't over clean them though bc my G&L is a vintage white and it's really aging well and yellowing a little. My MIM tele gets love too. I do the fretboard once or twice a month and I am a FREAK about clean strings so I probably change both axes about 3 times per month. I know, I know, just use string cleaner, it's not the same ha ha.

I go by the rule that I don't put my guitars anywhere I wouldn't put a baby (a trunk, left unattended alone in a park, somewhere too cold/ hot etc)

On my main Strat I oil the rosewood board twice a year, wipe it down if it gets too sweaty or dusty, and change the strings every two weeks. I hate old strings that are all rusty and sticky. My strings usually get just to the point of it being annoying every two weeks. Although last Saturday's gig rusted out a set of brand new strings because it was somewhere near 100 degrees out there.

On my secondary guitars I just change the strings when they need changing, and wipe them down if they need a polish. It doesn't take much effort to keep your guitars in good shape.

My main electric is my Hwy 1 Telecaster, I care for it by changing the strings when they need it. Otherwise I just play the hell out of it. A scratch here a ding there, no worries. It is a workingman's dream so I am not concerned with the appearance.

I care for my Guild acoustics appropriately making sure they get polished and fretboards polished whenever they need it. And when my Guild Starfire II is delivered on Friday it will be cared for in the same way as my Guild acoustics.

I am obsessed with my guitars. I maintain them like this:

Daily: Wipe down and use Fender Guitar Care Mist & Wipe to get off any grime/dirt from them, and Fender Swirl and Haze Remover

Monthly: Replace strings and use Fender Polish, check intonation and neck relief adjustments as necessary

6 Months: Clean electronics and do any maintenance needed

Yearly: Full tear down and strip old polish and add new, clean electronics and re-solder anything that needs it.

Last but not least play them and treat them like I do my Awesome wife...tenderly, with respect and liek they are my best friends!

ABS :D
