I work at a school and I got kind of arm twisted into playing my guitar for the end of the school year prayer service.

I'm totally petrified.

Now my low E string is constantly flat and I don't know how to fix it. It buzzes a little too.

It's Tuesday, June 8th in the morning. Just doing a small song.

Need some good vibes. I know it's not a big thing or a gig like that, but it's still in front of people. I get nervous fast when it comes to music.

I get nervous just playing in front of a few family members. You'll be fine. It's a prayer service? I can't imagine your playing anything too difficult. Anyway, Good luck!

Don't try to overdo it. Be yourself, you'll be fine. Since you have a few days before D day, maybe you could play in front of people you know, just to tame the nervosity. Sending MOJO and good luck. :)

LadyVendettaAngel, don't be nervous, sending good vibes from Chicago and a lot of Mojo from the Blues Capital.

I hope it goes really well for you. Telling myself not to be nervous never worked for me - I have to do whatever is making me nervous a few times so it doesn't get to me.

Can you rehearse in front of some of the people from the school at the school? That way you get to know the place and feel a bit more comfortable.

Go early, get set up, noodle around a bit to get into your comfort zone, and above all... have fun. 8)

Lady V -

Try not to let anxiety get to you (I know, easier said than done). Relax, have fun with it, they will love it!!! 8)

i'm 42 and still get butterflies. just remember, alot of folks aren't musicians and are impressed to hear someone that can actually play. just do your best and everything will be fine. you CAN do it. just try to relax and have fun.
and another thing. my band makes mistakes all the time. noone usually notices but us. we play for fun and because we love music. thats what i focus on.
hit it out of the park

You got the wrong perspective on this, seriously mate. It's a prayer service, what could possibly go wrong? Any God that won't look out for a nervy guitarist, playing whilst said God's worshipers pray, well I dunno how to comment on that without potentialy blaspheming.

Really dont stress mate. Your going to notice a million problems between now and then. If anyone else does, I'll be very suprised.

I still worry over needless things, worst thing is I know it's unnoticable to anyone else.

It's what we do, so chill out about it.

The worship leader at a church I used to attend had a Ovation acoustic with a caved in neck joint. The guitar couldn't keep tune for longer than 15 minutes, never held her back.

I can sympathize with your situation. Playing guitar (or any instrument for that matter) in front of people is not exactly my strongest point either. But ultimately....why did we take up this skill in first place. Just to play on our own...and not for the benefit of others too?? Best of luck...

Just do enough prep in advance and you will be fine.

I am more conserned about your guitar. You say the big e is always flat? I don't know what kind of guitar you play. If it is an electric your intonation may be off. Take it by a guitar shop and have the tech check it. To do it right, you need a new set of strings, but if you just want a quick fix, anybody that knows how could adjust the string in a few minutes.
