Flashback From the 60's, your drum throne idea should work, the oversized bicycle seat style is pretty comfortable. I always recommend standing up while practicing because in a band you will be standing, I haven't practiced while sitting down since my classical guitar years.

i have a couch from the 1970s in my living room. it has multi colored vertical pinstripes in olive green/puke green (as i like to call it)/beige/off-white/and and burnt orange. it has dark wooden legs. it has a low profile with a raised area at the top of the back forming an arch, and the arm rests are quite hard! however, its my comfy zone. always play while sitting on 'mean green'.

i got it 3 years ago when they were remodeling the break room at my old job lol. free stuff is the best stuff.

I either stand or if I'm learning a new song I'll sit. My chair is an old kitchen chair (very old) that has like a old pillow tied to it with a broken guitar strap. It's very cumfy for long periodes of time but-- if you ever try to take the cushion of it will be stuck to the chair on acount of the chairs old sticky laquer finish. So in other words it will be on there for ever or if you actualy get it off this nice old chair is covered in pink fuzz. Pups... :)

I use an extra tall version of the roc n soc tractor or bicycle seat drum throne. It's very comfortable, with super thick padding. They can be pricey though. I got a deal on craigslist.

Completely off topic, but, how was the show Ceri? I am a big fan of Mark Knopfler and love his 'touch' on the guitar. No one else quite sounds like him!

Hi TS: I won't clutter up this thread with it, but there's a few more details towards the end of this page:

In short, I've seen him lots of times and this was the second best ever, only beaten by a three hour set I saw him do at Ronnie Scott's a few years ago. Only IMHO, obviously...

Cheers - C

I usually sit on a piano bench to practice.
