Although I do GAS for expensive stuff for the sake of browsing and wanting, I know myself all to well. If it is something expensive, it will sit in a closet.

By my impulses yesterday, I bought something I doubt anyone on here would have. Hanging on a wall in a pawn shop was a J. Reynolds guitar. Considered cheap starter/learner guitars. And by all means, they really are. The headstocks on them are pretty funky looking. Like a beatlejuice Fender headstock with a shrunken ball shape on the end of it. Cheap neck, cheap parts like a starter Squier.

Why would I buy it then? Well.. The body was kind of cool. A nice interesting Trans-Red stain.. Couldn't quite make out the wood at first. So I took it off the wall and scoped it out.. It was EXTREMELY light for a full thickness Strat shaped body. I could swear the neck was heavier than the body.

I strummed the strings and holy crap!! The sound that came off it was astounding unplugged. Cheap neck, but MAN it had a resonance that was crazy good. I played some chords on it, and it was like playing a hollowbody. I even knocked on it just to see if it was solid. Notes and chords were just flying off the guitar.

So I bought it just for the body. It's a basswood body that just sings like crazy unplugged. So I brought it home, took it apart, and I'm gonna make a project out of it. All I have around here is a Squier CV neck, but I'm cool with that. I'm going to put some custom pickups from another guitar and new electronics in it. Got some Bubinga laminate I'm using as pickup covers.

I guess you can just consider me an odd person. I gas for diamonds in the rough. And I just found a really cool piece. $60 and I couldn't be happier.

I already have a couple of excellent Strats so I don't feel like getting another one. Right now I'm planning on getting a Les Paul, I just can't decide whether to get a Gibson LP Studio or a high end Epiphone like a LP Custom.

....and agree, they're not easy to photograph.

Though I don't own a set, I hear nothing but praise when it comes to Kinman pups. Chris Kinman is a clever chap.

Enjoy!

Andy

I have nothing but respect for Godin guitars. Everyone I have played was great quality and craftsmanship and a great guitar. I really want one of the MultiAc is nylon strings one day. The sister company Art and Lutherie makes great instruments as well.

I know everyone has their favorite pups, but those Kinmans just represent the definition of TONE to me. I have the Broadcaster set that I am putting into my Tele project and can't wait to finish that!

Enjoy!

Nice guitar...but if it oozes sweet tone why would you change anything? Also I noticed your tele project. The neck looks nice. Man your shelling out some coin on guitars including that guild in this thread. You must have a sweet job to afford all the guitars, or are you on daddy's money?

Nope, I am a grown man, paying for my own guitars, no daddy's money here, thanks for your concern though.

Sorry maybe that was an inappropriate question. But just because you have pubes on your johnson and you pay for your own guitars doesn't mean you are financially independent and not on daddy's money.

Shouldn't be of concern to you regardless of the circumstances.

no nerve hit, just odd that you would ask such a question unless looking to stir the pot. take care.

I want so much crap I think I need to open a guitar center just to be around it. No joke, I could burn through thousands at this point.

Guitars: Blacktop, one of each. American deluxe hss strat, highway one tele, and les paul standard. And a nice Taylor.

Amps: Marshall Class5, Vox Night Train, Peavey 6505, Fender (any all tube).

Pedals: All of them. However, I've wanted a skull crusher forever.

Thank God my credit sucks!

Don't know why I want it all. I just want to put myself in a room filled with killer gear and tinker all day.

I don't have a "Buy" list these days only a "Wish" list. And I'm wishing for:

- Electric 12 String - Fender or Rickenbacker
- Electric baritone guitar
- Tele with a humbucker at the neck (Blacktop ??)
- Marshall Class 5 amp (once they fix the chassis problem)
- Fender Princeton amp (once they fix the price problem)
- A stereo Uni-Vibe/rotating speaker pedal (the only one I can find is about $350 - Kinda pricey for the bedroom studio.)
- (Insert light bulb here) Maybe a plug-in instead of the pedal!!

That's it. My needs are small.
