Well guys thanks to your helpful thoughts in my other thread about career decisions, I have decided what I'm gonna do after high school. I am going to to the university of tennessee to study law, I'm gonna be a lawyer. I figure if im making those 6 digit figures I can afford to support my sometimes expensive hobby of music. And then I would be able to take my pick at (almost) any fender I want. I just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful advice guys. :)

You might also remember Mike....There are more lawyers in the music industry then in the mob... You think all those Rock stars really make their own decisions or read the laws concerning arenas or call other bands for permissions to cover tunes……prepare contract and record deals…….could be a ticket inside……Best of luck to you.

Cheers
Bill

Congrats on your decision. Can we start the lawyer jokes now?

Well that's a green light if ever I saw one. And now it has been reproduced in my post the legal precedent is established, so:

How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?

Fifty four. Eight to argue, one to get a continuance, one to object, one to demur, two to research precedents, one to dictate a letter, one to stipulate, five to turn in their time cards, one to depose, one to write interrogatories, two to settle, one to order a secretary to change the bulb, and twenty-eight to bill for professional services.

Not my joke, but it has been my experience...

Cheers - C

Sorry Mike, I'm a Vandy grad, so I can only be a little excited about your choice. :-/

Keep those grades up!

I read somewhere Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) practiced 5 or 6 hours a day while going to Harvard. Or something like that. But he didn't go to grad school after.

That's great news!

But keep this in mind: it's not always the best option to pick the career that'll make you the most money. A good career should be one that incorporates your interests (there's a reason why artists & musicians settle for less -- it's what keeps them happy in life).

Life puts too much emphasis on money. Now, perhaps you have some kind of passion for law (as wierd as that sounds), but you need to consider whether it'll keep you happy 30+ years down the road. That's a big investment of your time on this earth, after all.

I wish you the best of luck with your education! You can never go wrong being in school!

UT is only a few hours north of me, it's a gorgeous campus if I remember correctly, and the morgue for their forensics classes IIRC is UNDER the stadium, which is pretty cool.

You will make some good money if you succeed at law, but please, try to make sure you enjoy it before going for it. I'd hate to read about a music lawyer killing himself a few years down the road, because he went into it for money and hated the job.

Now for the jokes:

Q: What do you call a plane full of lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
A: A good start!!

Congrats Mike on an excellent career choice. My son just graduated High School yesterday and is on his way to Seton Hall. He is very active in politics and is a History wiz and I just told him that the only thing I wanted was for him to get his law degree which he is going to do. The way I look at it is you have to go for the kill and no matter what anyone says set out to make as much money as you can and there are so many types of law you will settle on one that you like. My oldest sister is a lawyer but it burnt her out and today she is a Teacher. I know this is not how I was raised as all I heard from my Mother growing up was money does not buy happiness. Well I have been on both sides of the fence and at times have also been miserable on both sides, but believe me it is much better being miserable with money.lol Also keep on playing as I would hate to see you become another Lawyer who just collects guitars.lol At least my favorite Lawyer can play.
