Tears of Louisiana

When our hearts hurt deeply, sometimes only The Muse can help to tell of pains. At this sad time of man made disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, from America's greatest oil spill so soon after Hurricane Katrina, music notes tears of Louisiana sorrows.

I doubt "we" even went to the moon. With such a space race going on at the time, why didn't anyone else make it to the moon to say, "hey, you may have been first, but we made it here 2nd".

Very questionable.

I've heard this argument before. I don't really care if man went to the moon or not, but I think that the Soviets would have had the technology to prove that we did not go if that were the case. It would have been a huge public relations coup for them to expose the fraud. Just my thought though and it doesn't prove a thing one way or another.

OK, so I guess it's pretty clear I know absolutely nothing about diving.

As far as fines and investigations and blame and so forth. I don't really care who get's blamed or who has to answer so long as it gets fixed. And soon. They can sort out the misdeeds when it's repaired. Time is wasting and efforts to cast blame are wasted for the present. Not that I want to see anyone get away with wrong doing or incompetance it's just the arguments serve no useful purpose at this time, IMO.

:D That's all right, man. It's pretty clear BP know nothing about drilling in deep water. Or clearup operations. Or PR. Or...

Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.

It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.

The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.

Now, almost seven weeks later, as the oil spewing from the battered well spreads across the Gulf and soils pristine beaches and coastline, BP and our government have reconsidered.

Federal law has also hampered the assistance. The Jones Act, the maritime law that requires all goods be carried in U.S. waters by U.S.-flagged ships, has prevented Dutch ships with spill-fighting equipment from entering U.S. coastal areas.

“What’s wrong with accepting outside help?” Visser asked. “If there’s a country that’s experienced with building dikes and managing water, it’s the Netherlands.”

The Dutch should have been brought in the moment they offered there expertise in the matter. They went through all the proper channels and the Administration said no.
Now Obama is just worried about making BP pay and keep the eye off himself. Sure he can't suck it up with a straw but it turns out there were offers to do so with special ships from the Dutch three day in.
Now you have the move to use the spill as Rahm Emanuel ( Obama Chief of Staff) has said in his writing Quote [ use a crisis to move a policy you want forward] End Quite
Watch out for Cap And Trade the Government creates its own commodity Carbon Footprints and the big bad polluters will be taxed on there carbon emission. The cost gets passed down to the consumer (middle class) more jobs run over seas were they don't have the crap and jobs go with them. Congressional budget office says Quote [ estimates that the price hikes from a 15% cut in emissions would cost the average household in the bottom-income quintile about 3.3% of its after-tax income every year. That's about $680, not including the costs of reduced employment and output. The three middle quintiles would see their paychecks cut between $880 and $1,500, or 2.9% to 2.7% of income. The rich would pay 1.7%. Cap and trade is the ideal policy for every Beltway analyst who thinks the tax code is too progressive } End Quote

This is another one of Obama's babies that he would love to push through and this crisis might be seen as a way to push it. Make it like we are going after the big bad polluters and stupid people don't relies the cost is just passed down the line. We all use energy!
