I think damage amounts (in dollars) have been grossly exaggerated thus far if you compare them to other massive oil spills.

This one is different, but up to this point, I think people are overreacting about the cost of cleanup.

But then again, if this thing leaks FOREVER that will change everything.

I don't think that they really know what the long term affect might be. This could keep leaking until August one report stated.
I wonder what we are seeing in that leak cam? Is it a light crude , heavy crude, how much of it is the gases that come out with the oil. I guessing BP knows what all these were before they decided to make it a production well so are there estimates the ones to trust.

Looks like plan B, or is it C? with sawing off the pipe didn't work. The saw got stuck before it cut through the pipe.

BP reported 20 BILLION in profits for the 1st quarter of 2010. Looks like they can afford to clean up the mess.

I'm no expert but build a super massive containment dome, one much bigger than they build before and siphon the oil.

This leak is devastating and we are yet to see the full consequences.

Yeah...I'm hearing all kinds of threats of civil and criminal charges against BP, but I'm guessing that it's gonna take a lot more engineering to get to the real root of this problem.

Bluefin tuna — so desired by sushi devotees that a single giant fish fetches thousands of dollars — are believed to spawn off the United States only in the Gulf and mostly during April and May. This year, both coincided with the worst oil spill in the nation’s history.

Just Obama talking tough, he thinks he's Wen Jiabao. There will be fines and civil actions.

They would die in so many ways.
A 5000 foot scuba dive  Sounds like something our great leader would suggest

LOL, my dad is a retired navy saturation diver and the deepest he has gone is 1,00 feet, and saturation divers dive the deepest.

the max scuba divers can go is around 700 feet if they are really good and have the right equipment.

Wait until you go to buy fresh seafood.

Without turning this into a political issue, yes, the President and Rep Markey are threatening legal action, but wouldn't anyone in their positions?

The bottom line is a two way street now -

- Fixing the leak and the cleanup

- Filing charges against BP to pay for this.

And sure...many more questions like will the 'out-of-work' fishermen be reimbursed for their losses...and many more people from actors to scientists to home inventors calling BP with ideas/solutions to fix the problem.

You've probably seen many of them on YouTube?

I just watched a newscast showing a team out off 7 miles past Pensacola with nets that were lifting heavy globs of oil to show the effect that this could mean when it does make landfall.

Latest Bloomberg news mentions that this could conceivably last
until Christmas!!!

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-0 ... nario.html

The bottom line is to get this leak fixed and the cleanup done asap...whether that happens or not will affect almost everyone in the world in some form or another.

Let's hope that BP is listening to the many suggestions pouring in
and maybe...just maybe...one of them will work!

I lived on NAS Pensacola for about 9 months some years back while I was at tech school. Beautiful beaches and area you have around there. Shame to see it destroyed by the oil. I need to make another trip down there, have some friends that moved down about an hour away, towards Mobile.

CNN reporter John Roberts suggested last week, “Drill a hole, drop a nuke in, and seal up the well.’’

I don't think the US likes that idea. :x

I would think just concussion of one being detonated off the ocean floor would cave it in on itself. The U.S. had a 51 pound anti personnel Nuke (MK54) in the inventory for a long time, I'm sure there is a few still around. It was a variable yield weapon from 10 ton yield up.
