NOAA is predicting the worst hurricane season in quite some time :

•14 to 23 Named Storms (top winds of 39 mph or higher), including:
•8 to 14 Hurricanes (top winds of 74 mph or higher), of which:
•3 to 7 could be Major Hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of at least 111 mph)

This, coupled with the oil leak, could be devastating.
The last couple years they predicted near normal hurricane seasons and they turned out to be below normal.

Very questionable.

2nd place is just the first loser. :D

Russia had the technology to track the space craft, if we hadn't landed on the moon they would have been the first to let us know.

China verified the reflectors on the moon, as well as the first landing site.

Its horrible, but I think a fit a tube on the end and lead it to where it was supposed to go in the first place.

Riley, I don't think you understand the kind of pressure involved here.

They'll need to cap it, unless they can complete the relief wells.

Nevin has to think about that statement. They can take pictures of the moon rover trails on the moon. Those zoom in photos you see on google earth are nothing to what the military can do and see.

yeah there are severe restrictions on the maximum resolutions of civilian satellites.(like a half meter resolution, or something.) Military stuff is decades of advancement beyond that.

yeah your probably right, as i've only seen 3 news stories on it. How much gallons of oil a day are flowing into the sea??

*disclaimer - i know nothing on the subject

This may sound stupid, but couldn't they just build a large heavy concrete block and drop it on the leak to at least block it off until a better fix could be figured out?

I would get NASA involved on inner-space issues long term. This is not a stretch. One NASA project is exploration of a Jupiter moon (Europa). After reaching the moon NASA would use a probe to burrow thru the ice and enter the water. Pugging a hole a mile away shouldn't be a big deal.

If you are looking for ideas from the average-joe music geek I will offer:

Put a tube inside the pipe. The tube would take most of the oil flow. The leaking oil along the outside of the tube would be stopped by smaller tubes releasing sealing agents. These smaller tubes could be engineered inside the walls of the larger tube. The large tube goes to an oil tanker.

Hi Ryan they have tried a concrete sarcophagus type thing I would call it once and it failed they are talking about a larger one now.

Well, let's hope that they're wrong again this year! The predictions are WAY over what the norm is!

Lets hope so!!!! Meanwhile they better come up with something. Even if we need to turn that area of gulf floor there to glass to do so.

You might need that for the wild fires in Canada that have been picked up by the wind and carried over the eastern states. :?:

No.1 corporate imperative: Protect the investors!

Here's another thing. We are told a second, relief well will stop the leak by relieving pressure on the first well, then, by that logic, wouldn't the first well also relieve pressure on the second well? It seems to me they always have multiple wells in the same field without pressure problems. I seriously question whether a second well will relieve significant pressure on the leak.

Drilling a hole in the ocean floor, in the middle of hurricane season, as a solution to a problem caused by drilling a hole in the ocean floor, is bordering on madness. I don't think they're holding out on the solution. I don't think they know WTF they are doing. :?:
