For me and Mrs. babalooga it's all about mutual trust and respect. We don't tell each other what we are allowed to do, it's been that way for 35 of the best years of my life. The one thing I know my wife would never do is tell me I cant play music anymore, it's just that important to me. Besides when I'm playing music I'm not chasing her around the house being a pest  . But I still like to tell my friends I'm only happily married 'cause she said so

it took my brain a while to process that, but it got me thinking do married men actually believe that or was he just using it as an excuse for not wanting to do something.

having never been married it's hard for me to identify that living with a wife she somehow becomes the broker in your decision making process. is this par for course or just a case of a man whose lost the frame?

I think this was an excuse not to do something.

I am married and have been for 20 years. The only time I used that line was when one of my (girl) friends from work tried to have me go out for a drink. And yes, I said my wife would not allow me to do that.

With that being said, my wife and I have a great relationship. We inform each other of things. We bounce ideas off each other. But having to ask permission for or to do something, no. I am not her father and she is not my mother.

I agree that your pal is using it possibly as a crutch.
My wife is cool.
She enables my severe Fender addiction.
A marriage is a compromise. not a punishment. You don't do it because you HAVE to ,(in most cases).
If you arent cool with that don't get married, simple as that.

Thing is I'm not so sure I have heard the reverse phrase.... "my husband won't let me"... or at least the only women I presume say such is those who are physically abused by their husbands and at such say that out of fear. but besides any physical abuse, do women actually say the same thing? Anyone know?
