On the tube tonight.
Live at Sturgis.
Uh-huh...
I sat through the whole thing.

It's too bad, it's too bad
It's too late
And too long
I only wish I could rewind

I honestly don't think that they are so bad ... the problem is that they are actually better than most every other new 2000-era band. When you compare the current bands that we had in the late '70s, 80s, and even the '90s, I honestly feel sorry for the young rockers of today. We had the Who, Van Halen, and Guns & Roses -- and you have ... Nickelback. When the year 2000 came, music fell off a cliff ...

Just my opinion ...

I can't really put my finger on it. It might be Chad saying the F word every 2 seconds like he's trying to prove to the audience that he's cool or something. I admit that's a minor annoyance. It might be how every Nickleback song sounds exactly like every other Nickelback song. Not just tone but chord progressions, timing song structure, all of it. That is quite common with a number of bands. We've seen formula rock sell before. It might be that there are no real guitar solos, just a few bars of Chad fumbling through an attempt at a solo. There are lots of bands with few or no chops. It might be the fact they brought another guitar player on stage for some songs and yet still had to use backing tracks to fill in the blanks.

I think it's the fact that Nickleback took all four of those shortcomings to the public and the public loved them anyway. They just irk me.

LOL!

Nevin and I both live slightly more than an hour long drive from Nickleback's tiny little home town so we may have a different perspective. Can you say radio overplay?

I went to a Nickleback concert once just to shout Nickleback sucks. Chad threw beer on me. True story.

Good times.

 That's so good. I did the same thing when i got dragged to an Alannis Morissette concert. Except it was in an arena and i was way in the back so doubt she even heard me. All i managed to do was piss off the folks within earshot of my voice. Surprised i didn't get cups of beer thrown on me.

I think this is it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvujgcbaCF8

And no Nickelback thread is complete without the famous vid of Chad getting beaned in the head onstage in Portugal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7F3O6WYfHQ

There are thousands of post 2000 bands that are better than Nickelback. Good music is out there still, it's just not played on Top 40 radio stations.

Besides, there was a LOT of crappy music in the late 70's through 90's. There has always been crappy music. It's just these days there is more of it and you have to dig for the good stuff.

My question with Nickelback is that I'd love to know how they sell a billion albums when apparently no one is a fan. Who are these people that fill the arenas to see them play and buy their stuff because I don't know of anyone who will admit to it. Personally I'm from Edmonton and I used to hear their stuff back in the day on our local rock station the Bear. This was before they had a record deal I'm assuming. They built a huge local following. I got to see them, Creed and Sevendust back in 2000 and Sevendust stole the show. I'd say it was maybe 6 months before both them and Creed blew up. I try not to begrudge anyone for being commercial. You can't really be huge without selling out and it pains me to use that term because I find it hypocritical. People play music on stages because they want to be heard and share with people. If the fact that people go nuts for your music makes you suddenly a sell out and makes people hate you for your your success then I find that sad.

I like some of their stuff, don't like some of their other stuff - not enough variety for me. I just don't get the fuss over them. :?:

Well I cant say they really suck as I do like a few of there songs and just for This is How You Remind Me I am glad they were a band, as I just happen to love that song. No one holds the record for cursing on a stage more than Twisted Sister, as anyone here from NY who remembers when they used to play Lamours in Brooklyn just about every week before they broke could attest to. First off two thirds of there set was covers and Dee Snyder would say MF every other word.
