this is a vent, brought on by some amp GAS that has led me to some stress.

almost all the amp demo vids i watch have guys playing these sweet runs while demonstrating clean channels, or theyll just have some guy play pure distortion while ripping through fingertapping and lead solos. most of the rock music i listen to contains mostly power chorded strumming patterns. i dont play metal so i dont need a demo of how gnarly your power tubes can be. i wanna hear the tone from rhythm playing

here's an example. i'v been trying to cover Switchfoot's latest album 'Hello Hurricane' from start to finish. their title track 'hello hurricane' has a mandolin intro with bass and then guitar for the verse, then they change the chords around for the chorus then back to verse, bridge then chorus then fade til the end.. bla bla you know about music, im sure.. there is not a solo in the whole song and there isnt tons of super duper ultra mega mind blowing distortion either. some of their songs have, like, 10-20 seconds of a cool solo, but nothing thats taking too much away from the basic rhythm.

why cant there be demo's out there for the rest of us who dont want to hear blues licks or death metal or classical fingerstyle... gah.

thanks for listening. i feel better.

I know it does seem odd considering most music is in a rhythm mode and most players play rhythm guitar. I have yet to see a demo that shows off all an amp can do.. I don’t know how much of it is time constraints and how much of the demos is just to show off their wanking abilities…all though a keen ear can still hear what an amp sounds like through the single note barrage you do miss out on how much depth the amp may have (or not)… Not to mention most recording are with camera mikes and you don’t get a true fix on it any way…. But it will get you close but the only way to hear an amps ture voice is go try it out and put real ears on it….

Cheers
Bill
