Saw an article in the paper today that most of my city's Ash trees could be at risk from the Emerald Ash Borer. This thing will likely wipe out all the Ash trees in North America.

You gotta kill the bug. We need the trees to be able to BREATHE! AIR! You know what will happen though. They'll find some other bug that likes to eat these bugs and cause a whole new problem with those bugs.

Love that book... :D

Love the trees too... One year at camp we had a tree-hugging competition. I hugged about 160 different trees...

Save the trees!

Well I have my ash guitar, so I'm set--but yeah it will be sad for the rest of you who don't have one, and want one.

There is still hope though.

The ash-borer, I believe, is not native to the areas where it's becoming a problem. Environmentally, you need to control the alien species.

It is not native to North America. It was brought over from Asia in the mid-90's and has been spreading rapidly. All efforts to contain it have failed. The efforts now are to try and slow its progress but it's all over the North and Mid-West. It's projected to destroy just about all the Ash trees on the continent with enough time.

And it is across all the Ash species that the borer attacks. One day Ash will be like the American Chestnut, gone.

A Chestnut can be grown today but will dye before going to seed still because of the blight. The original blight wiped them out 80 years ago.

There plenty of algae to take care of that.

Chestnut trees made up 25% of all trees along the east coast and Appalachian Mountains and it only took 20 years.

Man, that's bad news. Chestnut trees in my country have just started coming down with it in the last few years (two different diseases, in fact).

Enjoy 'em while we've still got 'em, I guess?

...Anyone ever seen a guitar made from chestnut? [Thinks... ]

Cheers - C
