Though I don't think I get to meet him on that one - but stay tuned. "money4nothin" - a Knopfler fan by any chance? :D

I like him, but I'm actually not that big of a fan. I was listening to that song while signing up, and I couldn't think of a good username, so I stole the song name.

Thanks for nice comments, guys. :)

Orville, it is my firm belief that Joe and others got the idea from you. :D

Upon reading this thread Mrs Ceri has asked me to point out that JB has exceptional good manners and charm and it was that and nothing else that was causing her to bat her eyelashes at him. And we believe her...

...Hammersmith - or was it the Rainbow?...

Hi SBLS: nah, The Rainbow was somewhere different, sadly long gone. So happens, I used to know someone who worked at The Rainbow in the '70s when it first opened. She said they wanted it to be different than other venues and put a lot of effort into making it really nice backstage. Then The Who turned up to inaugurate the place - and wrecked it. So from that moment on it was a dump backstage like everywhere else...

Cheers - C
that is a funny story as well

Hey Ceri!!

Nice pics! Looks like you and your wife had a great time! Joe is a class act! My girlfriend and I and some friends saw him earlier this month, she was not familar with his music until the show, now she is a huge fan - she said the same thing, "there is something about him!" - We spoke with him for a few minutes after the show - I didnt have the heart to ask him about Fender - however, my buddy that went with us, had a Fender ballcap on, and had Joe sign it for him - Joe indeed signed it, but just above his signature, he wrote, "Play Gibsons!" lol

Hi asg: it was a pretty similar story with my Missus. A few years ago I dragged her along to a Bonamassa gig in a tiny venue. It was standing only and the band were an hour and a half late coming on. By then a very polite audience was getting gently angry and my wife was rolling her eyeballs around ( ) in a sarcastic way.

Then they bounded on and opened with Bridge To Better Days - and within 30 seconds everyone was looking at each other with big grins on their faces that said: "Yes!" My wife was grooving along - and became such a fan she's been the one hauling our behinds to the shows ever since. 8)

That fella does not play in our town without us going along! :D

Now then. I wouldn't normally bother to mention it, but since we're here...

Mrs Ceri also took us to Mark Knopfler at the RAH last night. Here he is doing Sultans on the red Sig Strat:

Image

Those are Reinhardt amps through Marshall cabs - I've seen Knofler loads of times and don't believe I've ever seen him use the same amps twice. He sounded just like him through that rig and everything else I've ever heard him play: I've come to think he's trying to tell us something about tone coming from the player, not the gear...

They made such a huge fuss about how there was to be absolutely no photography or filming, and then my wife got into a fight with some guy in front of us about him taking phone calls during the show, which nearly turned violent. So I just didn't think it was a smart move to film the show, so no video on YouTube this time. Sorry - and it really was one of the best MK gigs I've ever seen. :? Catch this tour if you can, is my recommendation...

Anyway. My wife don't do anything by halves, and this time she got us some sort of vip ticket package. We didn't get to meet the great man, sadly; but on the plus side we did have silly lanyard thingies to wear round our necks and there was as much booze and food as we could eat. So we did.

We did you proud, ladies and gentlemen! The RAH caterers just could not quite believe how much finger food and liquid sustenance a Fender Forumite can get through in an hour!  :D

It is indeed a great story and fantastic photos.

Also, I hear you on the YuToob issues...I choose the ones I like carefully.

Now, I'm wondering about the initials of J.B.

Is it in the making of megastars from all walks of life?

Joe Bonamassa
Jeff Beck
John Bonham

James Bond
Jack Bauer
Jason Bourne

James Brown
Jack Black
Jim Beam

Or is it just coincidence? :?
