I have a challenge for all that live in the U.S. With this being Memorial Day Weekend and a lot of us think it's an extra day off to go out and party or BBQ or whatever.
Take some time over the weekend, go buy a bouguet of flowers, go your nearest VA Cemetery (or find a Veteran in your local cemetery) and place those flowers on the grave of one of the Men or Women that have served our country. Take a few minutes to tell them a little about yourself, Then Thank them for making it possible for you to have the life you just told them about.

Then go enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day Weekend knowing at least a little bit about what Memorial Day really means!

I'm going to see my uncle and grandfathers graves tomorrow, and my other grandfather on Monday. All 3 served our country honorably, and I was proud to have followed in their footsteps.

Dad's a former USAF. Raising the flag and already visited his bros at the cemetery (were in the army and navy). Always pray for and love our troops who protect us every day. God bless them.

Sadly, it seems every American will be remembering our fallen heroes... except for our President and his family. :?

It's very sad seeing the small number of Americans that have joined in this challenge.

Get involved people...

I go visit my late Great Aunt every year and my dad who was a veteran, but I like the challenge you put out and I will honor that challenge because I totally agree, that is part of the reason I visit my dad, not only for being the best dad in the world, but as you say, making it possible to live in such a respected country and if I can make someone else feel the same way, I will gladly step up to the plate

my great great grandpa Prather came from ireland with his family just to fight for the union army and get a fresh start in america. he rode in the cavalry. my uncle Buck was shot in the guts in Normandy, but lived. cousin michael died on iwo jima. grandpa chambers was a gunners mate on the uss st. paul in the pacific WWII. (the st. paul is now a submarine btw) no family in vietnam or korea, but i know a green beret from my hometown who was in vietnam. cousin brian was a drill sgt in the marines until about 10 yrs ago, he was in kuwait.

i would have liked to have joined the navy, but my knees are too jacked up. i'd love to be on a flight deck of a carrier. that would be the coolest job ever.

Chet,

As a Veteran and the son of a (now deseased) Veteran I will be spending Memorial Day remembering my friends , family friends, and family members who served our country that I (we) have lost over the years.

This is a great way to remember our fallen veterans. In addition to this, you should also thank a live veteran for their service as well.

From one Veteran to all the others on the Forum, thank you. For all the current Service Members, a very special thank you for all you do.

You are correct my friend. I am the son of a Veteran, I am the nephew of Veterans, I am the brother of a Veteran, I am the brother of an active duty Serviceman, I am also the father of 2 active duty Serviceman and the stepfather of a Veteran. Some of them deceased.
I will be going out to the Sacramento Valley Veteran's Cemetery tomorrow morning to visit my Brother and to Thank all of those are buried there.

I too am a Veteran.

From one Veteran to another Thank You for Serving Our Country and allowing me and my family to live the great lives we live in this The United States of America!

I do that every year.
Since, all of the men in my family are Marines I try to honor the military whenever I can.
My grandfather is buried in Arlington. Unfortunately, I have only had the opportuntiy to see his grave a couple of times.
