Have you met or exceeded the musical goals you gave yourself years ago when you first started playing? I wanted to be a session player when I started, but outside of a few demos and some spots here and there, I didn't make the status of full time studio musician, I never had the drive to learn how to read music. I can read tab, but slowly. How about you?

When I first started my goal to be as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan so it's needless to say that I'm not there yet. :D But I am pretty happy where I am right now.

I never really set goals, but I'm never happy with my skill either...

When I first started, well, I dunno what my goal was then, cause I only picked it up for 15 minuts every week. But when I started getting serious about it (thanks to nirvana) my first goal was to play  . My second goal is to start gigging, and third is to make a living out of it. That'd be a dream come true.

If I ever hit all of my goals it will be time to quit playing because I will have done all I can do.

same here. learn a handful of songs, find ppl to jam with, get a band together, have groupies (just kidding). and then other long term goals that havent been met... yet. like actually writing my own songs, gigging, going on the road, and doing the things you see rockstars do in the movies. lol

Well, one of my goals was to try to play at least 30 min every day or other day. I've met that on the whole.

Hitting the F chord....uhhhhhh.........not going there.

My goal is to just try to play. I'm not going to be a rock star. I just want to learn to play music and have fun with it.

When I first started I wanted to learn lead. I learned lead, then wanted to learn how to play it in a song by ear. Now I'm on learning about leading with major scales instead of pentatonic.

Even after that, I hope to set new goals. It wouldn't be fun having a stopping point.

LOL. No sir.

I plan to be a professional musician. As a high school student, 3 1/2 years into playing, I'm not there yet.

Lately though, it's been quite fulfilling. I've been picking up drums quite well, and am very excited for myself and my future. It's great.

I plan to go to a music college, so I should be almost set after graduation. :)

Setting goals is a good idea, working to achieve them makes it happen. I've been at this for awhile now and it will happen if you want it to. Play on Bros.

I have only recently started playing and am quite far from any goals right now, but I'm getting there.

Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Always learning something and no real set goal.

I dont think I ever really set "goals" for myself, other than the f chord, but I mastered that long ago...
Years ago, when I was a younger lad.. I wanted to be a rock star and be famous, but that did not work out. Jobs, marriage and family life kind of got in the way
For about 12 years now or so, I have been blessed with playing in our church worship band in various roles.
Over the years, I learned drums, then bass, and taught myself theory, to a reasonable level of understanding.
The last couple of years, I have returned to my first love, the guitar, and have learned a lot.
For myself, I find, I am never happy with were I am, and always strive to learn something new, just to better my playing even a little bit.
But for me, nothing ever comes easy. I really have to work on stuff. Everything for me is hard won.
So I think my goal would be just to keep learning something and getting a little better every day, until the day comes I can no longer play.....
