I am going over to GC tomorrow to buy one of the G-Dec 3 guitar amps. I wanted to get input from more experienced players at to which one to get.

They come in two flavors, a 15 watt and a 30 watt. I was hoping someone more experienced with them could tell me if there really is enough tone/sound difference between the 15 watt and the 30 watt to justify the extra $100. I can afford it but I just do not want to automatically go for the bigger wattage.

I know the GC employees will try and advise me but I still regret letting them talk me into a VOX AD50VT instead of the Blues Jr I went there for. Just to let you know a little about me and what I am doing, I am a 51 year old beginner (still), I don't really have a playing style/genre yet although I am interested mostly in the music of the Eagles and Eric Clapton and of course THE BEATLES. My guitars are a LP Traditional Plus, a MIM stratocaster, and a Yamaha acoustic. I don't plan on getting rid of the VOX unless I run across someone who would trade a Blues Jr for it.

I would appreciate any input you more experienced players and I have no problem taking advice from you younger guys (at my age almost everyone seems to be young)!

Thanks to all

The way I read the specs, it comes down to these additional features on the 30:

Additional tweeter for backing sounds
10" instead of 8" speaker
30 watts output instead of 15
Line out on rear panel that you can select the level and content (guitar and/or backing track).

I'd go with the 30.

I would also go for the thirty. Be sure to tell us how you like it.

I bought the 30 watt. It is great and it is a lot louder than I expected it to be too. I got really lucky on the price too. Someone must have made a mistake. When I saw that it was priced at $259 (less than the 15 watt G-Dec 3 beside it which was $299), I quickly paid for it and left. Great amp and a great deal.....

I have the original 30. Go with the 30. The bigger speaker and wattage boost are worth it. I still hate the cheesy presets and effects though. The live tracks on the new one is a huge improvement. The effects are still pretty cheesy. You can really hear all the faults through headphones.

63supro: Thanks for the info. Yes, I bought the 30 watt one and I am very happy with it. I didn't even get to check the 15 watt version out, the GC was a dirty mess with boxes and junk piled everywhere and the salesperson was trying to be as rude as possible.

You didn't miss a thing. I originally had a 15 watt GDec, and the data wheel went bad after 2 months and Fender gave me a store credit. I thought I was trading up to a 30 my mistake. I use it to play live tracks and to help with my timing. I thought I could use it for low level jams, but it can't cut a mix and sounds awful. I'm back to my 74 Champ for the quieter stuff. I'd look at the Line 6 Spider Jam instead. Wasn't the first time I was bitten in the arse by a newer Fender amp.

I actually like the G-Dec better than the VOX AD50VT that I have now. The headphone output on the VOX is abysmal and only a few of the amp models are to my liking. When I bought the VOX, I was actually looking at a Blues Jr and took the advice of the GC salesman to get the VOX instead.
