I've got this weird idea, an urge if you like, to go on the road playing unplugged music. Some of you may remember my sunken thread from a couple of weeks ago "Studio musician vs Gigging musician/Real Talent vs Fake One", where I stated that I am more of a studio musician than anything else, and still am. But, while writing a post for my new thread about bands from Eastern Europe, Yugoslavia particularly, I came across some great, great unplugged versions of some songs I've been playing since I was a kid. I guess I'm a little tired of electric guitars, pedals, processors, electronic keyboards... When you take an acoustic guitar after some time again, you realize that it is actually a perfect instrument!!! You just pick it up and it immediately sounds amazing!!! No need for bunch of extra stuff to carry around. So, I'm thinking about getting a new acoustic, maybe acoustic/electric guitar, an old stage piano (I could have bought a Roland FP1 stage piano for 120 euros (about 100 dollars), but I didn't have any money then. Now I want to cry! ), and take it on the road!
I was thinking of calling a friend guitarist and just start from there. See if it works out, and put together a band.
Just thought I should share the idea. Oh, I'm lieing!
I want to know what you guys think about it!
And about going acoustic! Where there's just you and notes. It sounds a bit more personal than cracking a distorted electric guitar all the way up.

I just this minute got back to my desk from the park across the street. There was a three piece band playing the blues mostly, a lady singing/acoustic guitar, harp player, drummer. Sounded great!

Inbalance my friend! We keep meeting on same threads. Mostly mine, but it seems we have similar tastes in music. It sounds great to me too!

In my opinion Acoustic is the true form of musical expression. You can add effects and play loud and with feeling plugged in but true talent shines mostly while unplugged. It makes gigging alot easier too since there's no need for the production crew and excess equipment.

i love the idea. there was a time that i played my acoustic more than my electric guitars. it sits beside the couch in my living room. i love my fender acoustic. we've watched many a game and strummed some tunes.
i've wanted to do an acoustic gig with just my cousin who plays bass and sings for years. he's overseas for awhile. i simply love the raw, purity of the music.
good luck and have fun

I once had a girlfriend (high school era) who was a classical pianist. Her opinion of most guitarists (meaning rock primarily) of our generation was that they used amplification to cover for sloppy technique, lack of overall ability and a multitude of other sins.

As she saw it, until you picked up an acoustic and played a song people could recognize, you weren't really a guitarist. It didn't have to be a classical song -- it could be rock -- but play the melody and use no tricks and now call yourself a guitarist.

A little harsh, but I have heard that from others since, and even more so about my other instrument -- bass.

Regardless, there's nothing like getting a song to come out on acoustic becuase it is all you and your ability. It even carries through nowadays with friends. If it's fellow musicians and we're jamming, we usually reach for the electrics. But if it's company and they just want to hear me play, 9 times out of 10 they want to hear me on acoustic.

I love the acoustic. And classical. In the end it's something everyone can agree on: the guitar. There's something very therapeutic about having strings beneath your fingertips.

Well the test of any great song is how it holds up on an acoustic,to be more specific so many classic hard songs started out on acoustic. I love playing acoustic guitar and most would be shocked at what 2 talented players could do with just voices and acoustics. I used to have a whole set of acoustic numbers that had very interesting guitar parts that I would do like Led Zeps-The Rain Song, Babe I'm going to Leave You, Ten Years Gone/ ELP- From the Beginning/The Who-Behind Blue Eyes/Allmans-Melissa/ Black Crows-She Talks to Angels/ Stones- Angie, Wild Horses/ Frampton- Baby I love your Ways which till this day I have never seen tabbed right as he uses voicings as if you were playing Black Bird by the Beatles but only strumming, and which I learnt from an old VHS recording of him doing it on the Midnight Special.lol

You can be an excellent lead player but if you cant play a few great acoustic numbers all the licks and runs will have people walking away if there is only an acoustic, and a guy who knows a few songs and chords will have everyone stomping and cheering.I have seen it happen many times.

I played acoustic over 30 years before I got my first electric and got serious with it. Still play it alot at home and can't ever see myself ever giving it up. In fact, am considering a 12 string.
