100 lb lab mix. 85 lb pit bull mix plus assorted "hardware". the hardware is locked in a safe. many of my neighbors are retired and we all watch out for each other.

A gated neighborhood with security cameras.

Also a Remington 700, a Beretta M9, and a brown belt in MCMAP.

Yes Nonni, that is correct. I forget that not everyone knows all the names, codes, and abbreviations for military stuff.

ok so far all im hearing is your basic home protection.
if your not home that gives the average thief 15-20
minutes to get in and get out. plenty of time.
im hearing about dogs.
after training dogs for security and personal protection,
i know dogs are pretty easy to get around.
your petty thieves wont mess with them as much, but the guy that
knows what hes after can step over or around them with
a little thought and prep work.
ok so, minus all this stuff, how are you protecting your
ladies? guitar safe? 5 locks on your music room door?

Thing is way cool, a determined thief is getting the stuff no matter what protection you have. If they really want it, they'll find a way. A lock will only stop an honest man, and I'm willing to bet the majority of the people on here, their "music room" which contains their prized guitars, has a window. Multiple locks on a door doesn't stop someone from coming in a window.

15-20 minutes is more than enough time for one of my many retired neighbors to notice a strange vehicle around my house and give me a call. I had a local small engine repair shop around not to long ago to pick up a lawn-mower for annual maintenance, and my next door neighbor called to tell me there was a Ford truck in my driveway with a trailer on it. He knows every vehicle I have is a Chevy, and he knows my girlfriends car. He's a retired Army EOD officer, so he is VERY observant.

Strangely, all the retired old men who live around me have taken a stronger interest in my house and the goings on in it since my girlfriend moved in with me.

But listen, here's the clever bit. My guitars are hidden... somewhere else. Crafty, huh?

Now. I feel you're just itching to tell us all about your ingenious security measures. So fire away - including any access codes and such we might need.

Cheers - C

thatguitarguy, thanx for you service.
you'd have to shoot my dogs to get in my house. trust me. noone comes to see us. they know only a few close friends and family and the vet. i'm not saying it's impossible but i feel sorry for the fool who tries to get in while we're gone.
short story. a buddy did some work on my fence while we were moving in. hot texas summer. i left the back door open for him to come in and cool off. the lab was still a pup. he tried. he did not succeed. he knows my dog. again, i pity the fool who makes an attempt.
