Sounds to me like the only thing "up high" about that deal was the store manager if he thought you'd buy the fact that that custom shop didn't see its fair share of "Smells like Teen Spirit" being banged away on its expensive existence.

Good luck... I think you did the right thing but that's just my jaded self.

Sounds like they were definitely "jerkin' your gherkin". Take your business elsewhere -- they obviously won't miss it.

You did the right thing. When I ordered my CS guitar I received a call that it had come in and to come on in and pick it up. When I got to the store the manager brought it out of the back and asked if I wanted to open it. The guitar was still in the shipping container from Fender. I was the first person to see and touch it when opened. They asked me to inspect it and play it (if I wanted to) to make sure I was satisfied with all aspects of the guitar including the case and all the promised candy! That is how buying a CS guitar experience should be. Better luck on your next try!!

I guess it all comes down to where you live. A simple matter of picking one out, placing the order, and a little waiting here. I won't buy a CS off the wall of any store.

mr. nevin, please excuse my ignorance. could you order one direct from fender and have it shipped to your doorstep? i ask because carvin will customize to the bone and ship direct. i guess i don't understand fenders custom shop guitar line. if you are spending that kind of money, you should get EXACTLY what you want.
curious to learn about this subject. my next guitar might very well be a custom strat. i'll sell the LP to get me there quicker. did you hear that? sell the LP.
good luck mr. nevin

Nevin, I have said it in the past, the only place in the prairies of western Canada that you should buy a CS guitar is at Avenue Guitars in Edmonton.

It sucks, to have to travel, but they are a showcase dealer, it makes all the difference in the world.

There will not be a next time.... not in the near future anyways. The only way I will get it is if I drive about 9 hours to a real custom shop dealer. Ugh.

Might bump up the 59 Gibson Les Paul on my wish list.... Sigh. Why does it have to be so hard to buy a Fender Custom Shop guitar. I can only imagine the hassle to get anything decent in foreign countries.

The mom and pop shop can order me the Gibson no problems... Fender, I have to drive 9 hours one way to place an order.
Take the drive, well worth it IMO................. 8) Mike

Nevin go back to the store, tell the clerk he can get a repacement COA, case and candy from fender. You'll have the guitar and accessories at the $400 discounted price, as it's obviously been used or it would have gone up in smoke with the case.

Get onto ME too, he's currently setting about some other store for a dear friend. I think he enjoys keeping em on their toes.

Sounds like a road trip to me Nevin :D . Just collect couple of guys with you drive out on thursday, buy guitar on friday and spend the rest of the weekend hitting the bars and clubs and doing something stupid then driving onwards home on sunday or monday and eat some roadside junk food (best hangover medicine ever  ).

The clubs thing would be good, but I know the drive he has to take, you guys in smaller or more heavily populated areas(90% of you guys on the forum,) have no idea how much nothing there is on that highway. We once went an hour and a half on the road, at highway speed (well, higher,) without seeing a single other car.

8.5 of those 9 hours are this:

PFF thats nothing. In 07 me and two of my buddies went on a ten day 3 cities road trip through central europe. From Krakaw in Poland to Prague in Czech Repuplic there was supposed to be 8 hour drive but instead it took us 10 hours to get to Prague. As soon as we entered Czech we noticed Lightnings and soon it started to rain so much that our was like this... ... excatly nothing. I almost did a nasty thing in my pants when a lorry passed us on the highway    . We only stopped once on the trip to change drivers.

mmm good memories :D

I am just saying with couple of your friends that you can stand spending 9 hours in a car with and good music to a road trip could be awesome and especially if you get a guitar that you really want at the same time. :D
