I've been saving business cards that I've aquired through many years, but I'm looking to sort through them and purge some of the ones that I have no use for anymore.

Do you younger guys have a better way to keep contact info for your musical networking?

I'm thinking that a spreadsheet should work just as well.

Your idea of an Excel spreadsheet would work, but that may be more work than you need. You can put a lot of info in the address book in your e-mail account. Not knowing if or what type of cell phone you have, you can load a lot there.

I had "some" info on my cell's sim card that got corrupted once but the contact list in email is a good idea.

Also, how long do you hold onto other's business cards/info...some I might need...some I might not...but you never know...?

Hey Mike,
If your a microsoft guy ie: office, you will find a handy contact manager on the instal disk. If not there are dozens of these types of programs available,

Thanks Bill, I'll search and see what else is out there. I used to have a great app called 'cardfile'. It's now on a 3.5" floppy, but I don't have a floppy drive anymore. Maybe there's a newer version of it, although it's basically just an electronic card file that sorts.

Might give this a try :

I just keep all that information in the Address app. on My Mac. Its broken down into folders for types of contacts. Each contact has name, phone, address, Email and a section for notes about the contact.

There's still no substitute for an old fashioned alphabetized rolodex. It's easy and fast to input the data and it's even easier and faster to get the data out than any computerized system ever divised or ever will be devised. You punch the holes, insert the card and you're done. Write a note on the back of the card to jog your memory if you need to put a face and place to the name. Done. No worries about viruses or hard disk crashes or accidental erasure either.

My buddy teased me about mine for years until I challenged him to find his data better or faster than me. Took my trusty rolodex to his office at lunch time one day. I had my data and was reading it off and he still hadn't finished inputting his log-on password let alone load up a program like access or excel and start typing a search parameter. That shut him up.
