I mentioned this in another thread. I thought I'd make a thread about it.

I think it's pretty amazing he can get a half-decent sound out of this.

I guess it's still strings which the bow runs over.

The lesson here is one must never doubt Jimmy Page.

Never cared for the sound of the bow on guitar even when I saw Zep back in 77 it was a bit tedious. Only the section in Dazed and Confused did I dig it. In fact I was just watching the black and white set from Swedish TV the other night on DVD and Page just rips it up on the Tele, a tone to die for. I wish he was more active as he is truly one of the all time greats and I know I cant be the only one who misses him.lol

As far as I'm concerned the man can do no wrong! I'm not a fan of the sound, but as I also can play the viola, I can respect the effort.

Personally I think the stuff Dirty On Purpose did with the violin bow was much more interesting. Don't banish me from the forum but not a big fan of Jimmy Page's electric guitar stuff. Much more impressed by his work on the acoustic. I've always thought his playing was a touch sloppy. Do I think Led Zeppelin rocks... hell of course i do. I just don't think he's god.

Well, he himself has said:
My finger picking is sort of a cross between Pete Seeger, Earl Scruggs, and total incompetence. -- Jimmy Page

I like the sloppiness. It's always been a part of his electric style I know he never considered himself a god. He always said he wasn't a technical guitarist. It was just spontaneous combustion.

I hope i didn't offend anyone. Not my intention. i love Zeppelin. I just prefer Andy Summers and Alex Lifeson to Jimmy Page. I guess its got a lot to do with the fact that i'm really not a fan of the blues... did I just say that out loud? I suppose I'm greatly outnumbered here on that order so I tend to stay out of discussions of the big three. I just prefer styles that are more influenced by Bach and Beethoven then the blues greats of old. I guess thats why i'm drawn more to progressive rock and metal players such as Randy Rhodes. My all time favorite player is Gilmour and he's the reason I started playing guitar, and i do love Jeff Beck so sure you could say i'm speaking gibberish but to me Gilmour is more of a blues influenced Rock player. I'm probably now excommunicated for posting this but that's what I love to talk about and thats why I love chatting with all you folks so hopefully I won't be exiled to the St. Helena Forums.

No, I wasn't offended. Everyone is entitled to their own likes/dislikes, it is cool. I'm a fan of the blues, so that is probably why I like them and people like Clapton so much, but if you like the Classical Masters, your taste lies elsewhere, it is cool.

But then again, Jimmy can stand on the stage and play his arm pit and I will enjoy it.

Don't worry, I'm a girl. LOL!
