Playing slide in open tunings is some easier, but it works in standard just as well,I don't know how much you know, but playing slide with a pick is kind of hard and you have to dampen notes and noise you don't want to be heard.
Playing with a fingerstyle of picking is really good because you can use your fingers to stop notes by laying your finger on the string to dampen it.
And also using your fingers behind the slide to dampen(stop) the extra noise.
Does that make sense?
It's a lot easier to do after you learn how, than to explain it....I could show you better than tell you.
Dickey Betts explained it 30 odd years ago in describing how Duane Allman played slide....that was when it came together for me.

You'll get the hang of it,but it sounds terrible when you're learning to play slide.
I know I drove everybody crazy back then.
I found out that Duane Allman used Coricidin bottles and so in the '70s when I found out they were going to plastic bottles,I bought several just to get the glass bottle,I still have 4 put away and I use 1 on a regular basis.I know it's probably in my head but those old bottles sound better to me than new ones....I'm sure that's not the case.
keep on slidin'!
