In my opinion, in the state that the music scene is in now, I think Jimi would of retired, been a record producer, or been a judge on American Idol. SRV would have mellowed out and done an unplugged album or two, and Lennon would be in seclution on some island, counting his money, maybe getting into merchandising Beatle stuff.
As groundbreaking as these three guys were (and still are), I think the currant music scene would of pushed them aside and they would still have a cult following, but nothing mainstream anymore. There are a lot of other innovators in music that have been forgotton about over the years, and left with an occational concert or guest spot somewhere.

That to me is a bit of a paradox. Without Syd there'd be no Floyd, but if Syd had stayed, there'd be no Floyd... at least as we know it. RIP Syd, and Rick

You can also say that with Keith Moon and Led Zeppelin

Without Keith Moon they would be the New Yardbirds and with Keith Moon they would be the New Yardbirds

I'm confused... did Keith Moon spend any time in Led Zeppelin? I didn't know that.

Keith Moon was invited by Jimmy Page to join The New Yardbirds, He said that the idea would go over like a Lead Zeppelin (Lead Balloon being an idea that fails quickly, so a Lead Zeppelin would be a big idea that would fail) Jimmy Page decided to use it as the name but shortened it to Led "so that thick Americans wouldn't think it's pronounced leed"

A ha... Got it. Learn something new every day here. Between this and the angled bridge pickup thread, i'd say i've had a very fruitful day on the forum.

thanks.

If they lived....

Hendrix: Probably would have completed a few albums and then retired from the game. Most likely fed up with the direction the world went.

Cobain: Would most likely have committed suicide by now even if he didn't before.

SRV: Playing in small town bars. ( don't hate me!)

Bon Scott: Would be with AC/DC, possibly making the band even bigger than it is now.

John Lennon: Watching TV right about now.

yeah probably.... its quite bizarre how nobody noticed how troubled he was and tried to help him

Duane Allman, for sure just look at the body of work he left in such a short time.

We all have an experation date and it is a shame some get taken so young, but for the ones that left young and at the top they get immortalized be it music, acting or sports. They never grow old and are remembered at there best. The truth is everyone mentioned would have had ups and downs and failures and would of aged. Just think of every artist who were a peer and where they are today is more than likely where they would be. The biggest obstacle here is culture change and the bottom line is guitar based rock music is not dominate anymore and the music industry is in shambles. There are many talented young people out there, but it is going to take someone very special that leads a movement that changes everything around.

It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I consider Duane Allman,"the man",but it's hard to say what he would have gone on to do,it would have been interesting to say the least.
Gregg Allman has said that he thought Duane would have probably wound up playing with many people and different bands, much like Clapton.
I think Hendrix would have gone through the '70s doing funk/r&b/blues....who can only guess, those that knew him said he was like someone from another planet.
To me it's hard to imagine them being old men.

randy rhodes and bradley nowell are the two saddest to think about

both were so inspirational and could have been even greater, but if randy was still alive where do you think zakk wylde would be??

I don't mean this in a rude sort of way, it's just an honest question.
Why do people think Hendrix would have gone into jazz? To me it sounds like he was leaning in more of a funk/rock/soul direction when he died. He would have fit right into the '70s music scene. I could actually see SRV getting into jazz, but Hendrix not so much.

Some of his stuff was already a bit jazzy.

But as I posted--he'd have gone through a variety of styles--mixed & matched.

Wonder what Metallica would be like if Cliff was still around.
