Just wondering what evolution to their music would have occurred had an artist, who died too soon, lived on? For example Hendrix, SRV, Cobain, Bon Scott etc. Name a favorite and what direction you think they may have taken.

everyone mentioned above. i'd say randy rhoads and dimebag.
randy, i thought, was just an amazing player.
i watched dime play back in our high school days. he too was amazing and better yet, just a cool dude. he and his brother always had time to actually talk with their fans. if success got to their heads and turned them into arrogant a-holes, i sure as heck never saw it.

In a similar vein, Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968 at the beginning of the band's rise to fame. David Gilmore took his place. What would have happened had Barrett's mental condition not deteriorated? Would we have Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall? Just a thought.

Well, if I've learned anything from Slash, the Stones, The Who, and countless others...probably sell out and embarass their legacies.

Or become old curmudgeons.

I think some of them would have peeked at some point, but we probably could have gotten a few more good albums.
Another one in a similar vein is Richey James from the manic street preachers, I think they'd be completely different now if he hadn't disappeared.

I think hendrix would have went into more Jazz experemental type music. Bon Scott would have been Bon Scott. SRV would have been SRV.

+1

I was feeling a little adventurous and bought the cd "Tribute", which holds the only live footage Ozzy had with Randy. "Mr. Crowley" sends a chill down my spine every time I listen to it, and I don't even like metal. Randy was also a heavy classical student, still taking lessons as the band toured. I simply love his technique. You can hear the finesse that goes into his playing.

If we still had him, I would hope he wouldn't change a damn thing.

Mozart and Beethoven died pretty young too. Can't imagine what they and others like them would have come up to if they would have live twenty or thirty years more. :)

I think after Kurt got done being angry, folk/blues tone may have been in his future. Where Did You Sleep Last Night is by far my favorite song recorded by them.

As was stated before, I think Hendrix may have been more jazz oriented.

And for SRV, just keep doing what he was doing. Though may have been hard to play with his boot up Mayer's $@!!

AC/DC- would have been far more revered had Bon lived.

The Beatles WOULD have reunited.

Rory Gallagher was still a top class performer. Until his liver issues he really looked much younger than he was, so i think he'd have still be tearing it up on the guitar, along with mainly getting much more folk oriented.

Buddy Holly. He was only 22 when he died, and think of the huge impact he had in his brief career. I believe he would have been a major force, both in his own music and in fostering new acts that went undiscovered in our reality.
