Being one that has worked in more than a couple of music stores, let me tell you what you may be in for.
1. It's a really cool job. Other musicians will respect your knowlegde, and will ask you many questions about new gear, what to buy, etc. You'd better start bonin up on your facts.
2. All your musician friends, and the ones you didn't know you had, will start expecting discounts and freebies and favors.
3. When that cool, vintage piece of gear comes thru the door that the owner wants to sell, you've got to put aside your own desire to buy it, and think of the store first. That got me in trouble once or twice.
4. All the road musicians will come in expecting"star" service, and will expect you to walk away from that mom and dad sale you're doing and wait on them instead.
5. Get ready for the warranty issues. I've had guys trying to fix thier own amps and guitars at home, screw them up, and then bring it back to you and they will expect you to cover thier warranty.
6. There's always gonna be someone who will come in and know more than you, and will bash everything you have in the store. Thats where knowing your gear will come in handy.
7. Do learn basic guitar setup. You'll be some kids hero or a working mans hero if you can set thier Strat up or fix a simple problem for them while they wait.
8. Everytime things get hectic or you think you're gonna lose it, walk out the door, take a breath, then walk back in and look around at where you are, see all the gear, and be thankful you have a job you love.

As a customer and friend of a former music store employee (And I never asked for or expected a discount), I'd say--good list--very accurate.
