Well, I went by my local guitar store to drop off my resume today. I handed it to the owner (who I've known for about four years) and he looked over it for about two second and said, "Great, you're hired". I start my training in a few weeks and I officially start my job at the end of the summer. I'll be learning how to set up and repair guitars as well as helping customers. One of the things I'm most looking forward to is tuning all the guitars and basses. It sounds like something boring, but I look at it as an excuse to play them all. :D

The funny thing is (well, actually it's not too funny) my Dad has been out of work for nearly a year now and I found a job before he did. I didn't see that one coming a year ago.

Congrats on the new job! Way To Go! 8)

Now... we need to talk about the "Good Forum Friend Discount" that all of us will get! I'm thinking that 20% would be a good kickoff rate... maybe bump that up to 25% after you get settled in! :P

alright- a dream job! as i move along in my sales career, i am getting tired of life on the road. hopefully in a few more years, as i get closer to retirement, i wouldn't mind working in a music store part time.

hopefully someone can find a spot for this 50 plus years of playing guitar player

annyway- much success to you

Congrats!!!

we'll soon be hearing about how you need to work a bunch of overtime, just to break even on all the new gear you're buying!

Congrat's man, working at a popular music shop should be fun.

Congratulations Texas! I know it's work but you're a gear head like the rest of us, so, you know, have a little fun playing those guitars :D

Thanks guys! :D I'm not sure what kind of discounts I'm going to get yet, but they have a nice sunburst American Special in stock... I might try to discourage sales on that one, they're terrible, horrible guitars after all. Any customer would be much better off buying the Tele American Special or the American Standard Strat, but not that piece of junk American Special Strat. ;)

One of the discounts in the long run is going to be the ability to troubleshoot my own guitars, set them up, change pickups out and do things of that nature that I would normally have to pay someone else to do. Both my Strats are sorely in need of some fret work, so I'm thinking that they might be good guinea pigs for me to try my hand at under the supervision of my tech. Not on company time though, but that may be my first overtime job.

And yeah, I'm very much looking forward to trying out all the gear. I need to know what all the amps, guitars and pedals sound like so that I can give helpful information to the people who are interested in buying them. Or something like that.

TGS,

That's great news. I always wanted to work in a music store when I was younger. If I ever hit the lottery, I want to open my own shop and live the dream (without having to worry about insurance, steady pay, ect...). My dream is to put a musicial instrument to anyone who has a desire to learn.

You will probably see every kind of guitar come through the store. Make sure they are teaching you everything. Becoming a good luthier could bring you a lot of future business and introduce you to legends of the music world. Knowing the in's and out's of your gear is priceless!!! Which store are you going to be at, I'll bring in one of my guitars for you to learn on if it's not too far from my house.

Again, congrats on the new job.
