Well, I'm going to a flea market tomorrow. Do any of you have some tips/advise for finding things guitar related (like amps, pickups, pedals, or a guitar itself)? I kind of hope I don't find anything because chances are it'll be too expensive, but I've heard of people finding guitars that can be fixed up for as little as $30. But I don't want to get ripped off either and end up wasting $30.

I'll probably just ended buying a couple of old records or CDs if anything, but I'd like to hear your flea market experiences just in case I do happen to find anything good tomorrow. :D

a flea market sounds like a place to find a bargain on stuff I haven't been to any so it will be interesting to hear what it's like and if you find anything cool. this flea is the only one that I know of:

The days of finding hidden treasure are just about over but never say never. It is just that the internet offers to much info and most folks checkout what they have to see what it is worth. Then again there is always that very small percent, but I would not get my hopes up.I do think you will find some good music to listen to.

+1.
You can optimize your search by getting there just before the opening time and watch people coming. The only way to catch the good stuff before the croud do. If you can, bring along a friend with an I phone or computer so you can do a quick search on the net just to make sure that you spotted the rare gem. It is more fun to be with a friend and he or she can check infos on the net while you negotiate with the seller. Go to the flea market often. Also, let your friends know that you're searching for this kind of stuff and gear. Good luck. :)

Well, we got a late start this morning and I have some important errands to run today. So it looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow, but I'm going to go.

Well, I just got back from the flea market.

The instruments were a big disappointment. The best deal I found was a Squier Affinity Strat for $125, $25 more than I paid for mine. The rest were cheapo classical guitars.

BUT, the big surprise was how many record booths there were and they had some great deals. I found one booth in particular that was filled to the brim with records. The first one I found was a Jimmy Reed record, but that was $45. The cheapest Jimmy Reed record I found was $15, but that was still more than my budget would allow for just one record. I had much better luck in the boxes of $5 records. I found a Ventures record which songs that I don't have and I flipped out when I found the Fabulous Thunderbird's debut record. So I paid my $10 and left, but the owner of the booth said he had more Thunderbirds records so I only stayed away for another five minutes because I had $15 remaining and I couldn't resist. So I came right back and found another two Fabulous Thunderbirds records (one my parents already have, but this one had a different cover). I also found a Lonnie Mack album, the one that Stevie Ray Vaughan played on. The owner was very impressed which my selections. How many 17 year olds in the world are there who really like The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Lonnie Mack? He was real nice and he threw in a J.J. Cale album for me. :D I'll definitely be back, I love records and you can't beat $2-5 an album.

So this was my entire haul,
-Guitar Genius of The Ventures (I love the album cover, it has Mosrite guitars all over it!)
-The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Debut album, still in the plastic!)
-Lonnie Mack, Strike Like Lightning
-J.J. Cale, Troubadour
-The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Tuff Enuff
-The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Butt Rockin'

This week I'm going to get the turntable set up in my room so I can listen.

I just realized that my Fabulous Thunderbird's debut record is still sealed! No one's even tried to open it. I guess I should be happy, but I'm not because I was really looking forward to hearing it and now I can't. I'll just buy the CD next time someone gives me a tip. I wish I had noticed that there, they had one that wasn't sealed so I would have bought that one too.

Texasguitarslinger, if that record is still sealed, see what you can sell it for. Might be worth a nice chunk of change.

$10 on ebay. Oh well, it's not the Beatles' first album or anything. Although I probably like it every bit as much. I'm thinking of framing it, if I can't listen to it then at least it'll be good for something. :D And hey, it's worth twice as much as I paid so I can't complain.

And this, of course, causes people to over-charge for a lot of stuff as well.

I've never found anything decent, but I haven't given up.

The best deal I've gotten from any Flea Market was a 1969 Zippo for $3. It's apparently worth around $250 and has "Michigan Boiler and Eng. Co" on the front of it. Aside from the color in the engraving being gone, it's almost like brand new.

Then I bought a 1960 Zippo for $7 that had "France Packing" on the front of it. It's in worse shape than the '69, but it works great and has a flame that will burn your hair off if you aren't careful. I use it constantly.

I love vintage Zippos. There is a certain class about using one that a Bic will never have. A Bic lasts about 2 months if you're lucky. A Zippo will last forever.

sounds like the flea market is paying off. it is getting harder and harder to find any good buys, as people seem to want way too much. garage sales can be fruitful, but only if you get up early.

keep hunting!
