I caught about the last 1/2 hour of this on cable last night. After seeing that much, I'm wondering if I want to see the rest of it.
Like a lot of players, I really like Jimmy Page. White hair and all. Did he suffer a stroke or something? He seemed to look a little lop sided sometimes in the face.
The Edge. A decent person and an ok player. He was just in the right place at the right time. He has a different style for sure.
Jack White. Is he for real? Does he really have an audience? A hack on the guitar and every song I heard him sing was just intollerable screeching.
The slide number at the end of the show was interesting to say the least.
The song they all sang at the end started out ok until Jack White started his screeching.
How did they come up with the choice of the 3 players? There are so many other logical choices they could of made. Jimmy Page was the only one who seemed to have it together, and has earned the respect from other players that he deserves.

About Jimmie Page. Yeah, we all go through physical changes when we hit our 60's. Not all, take Eric Clapton for instance. Your thread reminded me of a group called "Them Crooked Vultures". I know I will catch a lot flack for this but: for 3 "superstars" I thought that they were horrible. All the songs sound the same. Sort of a desperate, loud, pounding of noise. John Paul Jones played bass. He was in good form. It was just their music. The Foo Fighters drummer played the same crashing tempo all night. Same volume too. Don't be too hard on me people!

'Am riding with Nevin on this one. You need to see it from beginning to end, without interruption, with a wide-open mind. Be mellow. Slow down and let things come to you. We learn by watching and listening and thinking.

Personal thoughts on the perfectly logical lineup of the truly excellent DVD/experience.

James Patrick Page, personification of tradition in rock and an electric guitar immortal

The Edge, growing up in a suburb of H*ll and falling in love with the electric guitar and what one can do to make it produce different sounds and moods

Jack White; a modern man out of step with this time but with wisdom and time-connection beyond his years

And the three have a mutual love of the electric guitar, musical tradition and those who make music with it.

Again, opinion only, that production could have been made equally well, with Joe Bonamassa, Ry Cooder and Sting and just as intriguing.

Or it could have been made with Sir Paul McCartney and Slash and John Mayer.

Or...?

I honestly did not know why Jack White was there, so thanks for explaining.
Of course I watched it purley for Page, I do like The Edge too. It was a 3 out of 5 star one for me, but I did enjoy them jamming together. Interesting how they interpret a song.

I love this documentary... and I'm a fan of Jack White just because I think he's an awesome musician and I'm a fan of The Raconteurs (not really a fan of the White Stripes though)

Yeah I was actually amazed the most by jack white.. Personally for a effects guy I would have picked tom morello instead but I think he is not as commercial as the others.. But I always enjoy perspectives about music from professional musicians. and to watch them in the raw and unrehearsed is a thrill for me I think thats why I liked jack white the best in that documentary.. I never listened to the white stripes or recanters or what ever they are called. But now I am a fan..
And its always a pleasure to watch the legends that help found rock music do there stuff Page. Its great to see someone still kickin it after all these years and still enjoy it.. I would have liked it if they went more into the changing points or discoveries that made them the musicians they are today..

Some times its just nice to see or hear your Heroes make mistakes or struggle . It reminds me of when I was heavy into steve Vai ( I was so depressed cause the stuff he did was so technically flawless that I would have to practice the rest of my life 10 hours a day) or quit I chose to quit for a short while it helped listening to less technical stuff. But you don't realize that he doesn't play that well all the time...

well enuf gabb for now

I liked the film. Jack White surprised me. I was never a fan and only heard a couple of his songs before. I liked his raw approach to the guitar. Not a technical musician, but nether were any of the older Bluesmen. I love raw guitar styles. The Edge, eh. Play one note and get a hundred through a pedal board as bid as a house. Page? Just watching him listen to Link Wray's "Rumble" say's it all.
Next up, try and find a copy of " The Wrecking Crew" You'll be flat out amazed.

I rented the movie a couple of months ago. Loved it.

Jimmy Page, the Edge, and Jack White...All unique in their own way. I really appreciated Jack White and learning more about him. I can really appreciate him, his style, and his music. He Rocks!!!

I liked how the Edge listened to the tape of his music and interjected what was going on behind the scenes etc.

If you love guitar and music I think that you would enjoy this documentary.

Well I have been dying to see this and bought the DVD today so I know what I will be watching tonight. I can see where the director is coming from with the three diverse players he chose as they are stylistically very much different and from different eras also.Page can cover the Rock Blues, Riff guitar God aspect. The Edge is a player that uses Textures and effects and Jack White sounds like someone who can play good for only playing 2 years. This choice I do not get at all but I am going in with an open mind as a lot of guys are giving him respect so I will not judge until I watch. Personally I would of loved if it was Page, Vanhalen and Beck.

I saw this movie at a theater and own it on Blu-Ray now. Personally, I was never a huge fan of any of these 3, but after watching the joy they all took with the guitar, my opinions of all 3 changed for the better.
