I do not know how many guys remember a great gear magazine that came out in the mid 90s called Guitar Shop as it only lasted something like a year but I found an issue in the basement from May 96 as the cover has a JagStang on it and says Fender Show down New vs Vintage.

There is a great article in it on a rock auction that was coming up at Christie's in NY. Here are some of the gems and prices

One of Chuck Berries Gibson ES-355 that was estimated to fetch- 14K-18K/
A Fender Coranado II that belonged to Duane Allman estimated at -18K-22/
Candy Apple Fender Strat XII that was SRVs that he gave to a good friend along with a real nice letter he wrote him "Thank you for all the good years of fun and friendship!... Take care of this ax your friend Stevie" It has the SRV stickers and the number 12 on the back. estimated at- 12K-15K. Might of wanted to hang on to this one./One of Randy Rhoades personal prototype signature Jacksons that at the time of his death was at the Jackson factory getting a repair with his personalized Calzone Road case estimate-10K-15K/An 81 Gibson Les Paul that was Keiths that he used on the 82 world tour and gave to his personal manager in 85 with a Stones UK tour case and it was signed by every member plus Mick Taylor and Ian Stewart estimate- 6K-8K/Jack Bruce's Cream era Fender Bass VI that was painted by the Fool -estimated 40K-60K/ Bob Dylans 49 Martin that was the only guitar he performed with from 59-61 and wrote most of his earliest songs on including Song to Woody. estimated -75K-95K/1970 Strat Hendrix bought at Manny's for $275.60 and played at the party celebrating the opening of Electric Ladyland Studios estimated-70K-90K.

This was only 14 years ago and everyone of these guitars are superstar guitars which in a few years would fetch Bill Gates type prices. SRVs real Strat was cheaper than his CS Lenny.lol Also for us mortals the Fender CS put out 60 Strat Reissue with matching color headstock for $2,199 and a 52 Tele reissue was $1.399 along with the first Gibson Page Les Paul that the mag said was a whopping $3,599, a cool thing I did not know about this guitar as they go into how Page could always make his Gibson sound like a Fender was because it was so heavily modded it had 21 different tone combination's and push and pull pots and switches all over the ax. If you have any old guitar mags pull one out as it is cool to see the prices and also what was out.
