Has anyone used the Digitech RP500 and would care to comment on the quality or value for money?

I'm looking around for some effects for practice (by myself and with a couple of friends) - this won't be used for gigging. A friend of mine has been raving about it. Unfortunately I can't borrow his or find one in a local store to play. I've found some videos on youtube and I have a CD my friend put together so I'm happy with the sounds it can produce.

My late best friend and former rhythm guitarist used an RP on stage. It was a pretty versatile multi-effects pedal. They're a skosh on the expensive side but worth the $$$ in my opinion.

Best of luck, HTH

I tried out the Rp 1000 a couple of months back at Guitar center….Played around for almost 2 hours and still did get to hear all the effects in the thing….very versatile unit… the 500 has less amp modeling and is 2 hundred bucks cheaper….not a bad value…..I think I like the BOSS me 70 a bit better for the same price. The effects sounded better to me and I really love the harmonizer it has…..SOOOO….If I had the extra money to spare I would get the 1000 because it has way more options…but I don’t….but for 299.00 I think I like the Boss a bit more sound wise………But hey that’s just me and my own personal tastes……so to answer your question….yes I think the RP500 is a great value for the money……let me add for whatever its worth, I said the boss sounded better to me but it seemed that the Digitech was better built with stronger switches and a more sturdy whaaa pedal…..its rugged for sure………for home use and recording I say Boss……for a hard core gigging tool that will take the punishment….Digitech all the way….

Hope this helped you out and answered your question…

Cheers
Bill

Thank you all for the comments and comparisons - it does help. The hard part is holding off until I've thought it through and not ordering straight away. :)

think it through, and do an assesment of your needs.

i bought a digi rp350 about 1 1/2 years ago. it's a great unit, but the boss me-50 or me-70 is more what i need- simplechange of modulation, delay etc. in manual mode, plus presets. you can also turn off the amp modeling on the rp-70 quicker than the digitech. both are good units though

I've been a Digitech user since the RP-1. Easy to program, good quality tone selections, best KERRAAANNGG for my buck, I think you'll like em too!

I have the RP355. I love this unit! It is absolutely worth every penny paid for it! I also have the Boss ME20. It is a good unit but I would go with the Digitech hands down..JMO.

I bought a used RP250 for $45 at GC a couple of months ago.
Lots of fun playing with it. You can program the dickens out of this thing and get lots of different sounds. I don't gig at all and wouldn't be able to tell you how it performs in that environment but I'm happy with it. Check for a used one and play with it. The newer models seem to have loopers built into them now.

Thanks again everyone - there's a lot of useful information been posted. At this stage I'm looking at a couple of units on ebay (one here in Oz, one in the US) and the price difference to getting it retail here (even taking freight into account) really surprised me.
