My dad recently called me from Illinois; he said that he found my first non-Silvertone guitar that he bought me when I was 13 and was just getting into my first rock band, in the attic. It is a 1963 Fender Jaguar, sunburst...in pretty good shape (since I only played it for 5 months...cause I found a nice 59' Strat)... Anyway, what is a 1963 Jaguar worth, these days?

In good shape? Probably anywhere between $3500-6500.

However, I would recommend playing and loving that guitar over selling it, as it must sound magnificent.

It was brand new when my dad bought it for me and only saw the light of day for about 50 hours after that initial 5 months. I wouldn't sell it, just wondered what it might be worth. My dad bought it over at Nielson's Music store on 7th st in Rockford, IL from Ralph Nielson (Rick Nielson's {from Cheap Trick} dad) in 1964. Rick's band at that time was "The Grim Reapers", my band was called the "HenchMen", we were 13 years old.

In mint condition I would not be shocked to see someone pay 10K. The market is at its worse so I know you do not want to sell but in 5 -10 years boy oh boy.

Originality more than condition will play a big part of the price. Sounds like your Dad did good by finding that for you! I agree that if you don't have to sell it, hold onto for a few years. Better yet, keep in in your family if you are able. Right now it's a buyers market for the most part and you'd give up some value if you sold now. I have 2 viintage Strats, a 1957 and a 1964 that both will be passed onto my son (who plays drums). But I do like to watch value trends, and we're well well on the other side of the hill (down) from some of the peaks seen in recent years.

I wonder how many guys would pass a polygraph that asked if they had any problem with there kid pulling it out and playing it unsupervised. As Maury says "And the lie detector said that was a lie."lol
