I do not have a lot of money, and my son wants to learn how to play the guitar. I found the Squier® Stop Dreaming, Start Playing Guitar & Amp Pack - Affinity Strat® HSS with G-DEC® Junior Amp - Black (kit) which is priced at $349.00.

Does anyone know of any deals or coupons that Fender may offer? Or any other deals that still contain the quality of the Fender product-line?

Thanks in advance,
~CJ~

My advice is to go to the nearest pawn shop and pick up the cheapest one they have. Many people want to learn how to play guitar only to quit when they realize how much effort is really involved. Don't spend alot of money on something that very well might end up gathering dust. If he's still playing come Christmas, buy him the Fender starter pack.

You might want to check Craigslist in your local area, I see a lot of the starter packs for sale locally. As mentioned above a lot of people give up and wind up selling their gear, if you shop around you may find a deal. Good luck.

Sometimes Memorial Day weekend have sales that are pretty good. check online or ask/email guitar places to see if that will happen this year. I know last year, Guitar Center wanted to move some merch out last year at this time, and I got a good deal on the SE Squier guitar pack. Doesn't hurt to ask.

It's cool that you want to get your son a guitar. I agree with the rest, get something good but look for deals. The Affinity Strat pack is decent, but within a year he will be ready to move up. The little practice amp is just not that great.

I would go to the local pawn shops and 2nd hand music stores in your area and see what you can find. A 30 watt solid state amp or a 5 watt tube is a good starter amp size. When looking at used guitars, make sure they can stay in tune fairly well, and the neck does not twist to the left or right. Minimal buzzing is prefered; however, you can take it to a guitar shop and have them do a professional set-up to restore it to proper playing shape (if needed). Most imporantly, plug it in to see if it plays. Make sure every switch and knob works. Good luck with your search.
