you were blindfolded and given six guitars to play that were exactly the same model as yours? Not played thru an amp, but just by itself?

Assuming they would all sound the same... I sanded the neck of my SRV down to bare wood so picking that one out would be easy but unless the string height was different or there was a difference in wieght I doubt I'd be able to pick my '78 out of a pile. I don't pay attention to things like fret height, neck radius, etc.

Possibly; setup and feeling the little imperfections would help.

I can tell mine. If I put my ear up to the back of the neck, I can hear a little voice screaming:

"Would you please learn some new licks!!!"

I could probably tell with most of them. I could easily pick my Squier out because I play it so often that it would feel very familiar. My Fender has a slight ding in the back of the neck around the 1st fret from when it fell off a chair several years ago. And my Les Paul has a 50's neck that's thinner than most so I could pick that out.

Mine might say learn "ANY" licks. 8)

But in reality my Tie Dye Strat is not a gig guitar, just for noodling around the house, so it's lack of dings/dents/road rash might make it easier to pick out.

I'd just hold each guitar close to my ear. My guitars speak to me

Yes, without any doubt whatsoever.

I can pick out my Highway 1 with or without an amp. I have played that thing so much, I know where the little dimple is that was in the guitar when I bought it. It is right behind the Tremolo behind the G string. With an amp, the humbucker in it does not sound anything like that Atomic Humbucker that comes stock in the HSS Highway 1.

I do not think I could distinguish my other two guitars yet. My CV 60 sounds like all the other CV 60's I have played. I haven't had my American Special long enough to learn it's secrets yet, but I am getting there.

until recently I could tell because the neck was a little greasy and smelled like hot dogs and french fries, I cleaned it up really good last week so now you have to put your nose right against the neck to tell its mine.

My stock ones, no.

My self-builds, certainly. But then there aren't another five that are exactly the same to compare any of them to!

Cheers - C
