Well the OP only joined April 28--less than a month ago--I don't remember seeing this during that time.

And sometimes somebody will search & resurrect an old thread, but get grief for posting in an old thread.
They can't win either way.

Take it as a new member seeking to get involved.

I like both. For a long time I swore by Rosewood only. I feel that was purfect for the sound I was gonig for at the time.

Now most of miy guitars have maple necks. They also bring out the sound and fell I'm after at this moment. It may all change tomorrow. I will say this, I'm not a big fan of ebony.

Nobody will hold it against you man :P This is one of the first Threads you think to post when you join here :) I made this thread by the EXACT same name a year ago when I joined :P

For your sake I will say I like both!
I prefer the tone of Rosewood as Im a rock based player
But i prefer the feel of playing a maple neck :)

I kind of have to laugh at the people who say they like rosewood better because of the tone, because unless you take the EXACT SAME guitar body, and swap necks on it, you won't know if the tone is coming from the wood/finish/pickups from one guitar vs. the wood-grain/finish/pickups of the next.

Also, with the modern techniques of putting the "skunk-stripe" or tone-strip in the back of necks with maple fretboards, you get a little bit of "rosewood tone" in the maple necks.

I have maple on both of my guitars, a tele and a strat, but that's because I prefer the feel.
I have rosewood on my jazz bass, but I didn't have a choice there, because I bought it used and got a GREAT deal on it.

Again, I ask, which one is the hot redhead, because that's all this question is, do you prefer blondes, brunettes, or redheads? Because I have to pick the redhead......my girlfriend says so.

Glad I've had my Orginal neck break then! Cos now im playing a RW on this guitar and i prefer the sound of the rock i produce.

But then again Im a guitarist that is learning like everyone else maybe my finger tone is getting better instead and that is in fact what i have noticed.

That's why I stick to saying I prefer rosewood for the feel.

I like feeling the wood under my fingers.

My bass has a maple board, but with the big bass strings on it, I can't really feel the board.

The fretboard on my Epi Prophecy SG is ebony, it looks cool, and feels harder under my fingers. Not sure it sounds any different from rosewood though.

yeah ebony feels different--but once you get used to it--there's nothing like it.

Although I still like rosewood.
