I'm using this series (with the CD) to relearn some guitar again. Has anyone ever used these books? I can't get out to see a teacher (don't have the money either) so I'm using these books. I had a real old one by Hal but that thing was like older than God so I needed an update. The CDs help me a lot because I can hear what the songs sound like.

This is the link for what the covers look like.

So, any other suggestions for guitar learning? I think these books are helping. I'm learning some songs right now. I can pick Jingle Bells, Ode to Joy, and Love Me Tender with pretty good accuracy. Plus I'm learning where all the notes are which helps me quite a bit.

Hal L's books are kind of the standard when it comes to book learning. I did levels 1 and 2 before I started taking lessons so I could go in to them with a good base knowledge. It definitely helped. Once you get a book or two done then I would order a few "fake books" of a band you like. It'll give you something you like and songs you know so it's fun and beats jingle bells for the 1000th time, ha ha. Plus it'll give you some more to practice within your skillset.

There are a few things the book won't teach you as far as all your fingers landing at the same time when doing chords (a terrible habbit I had to break lol), etc. See if you can get your hands on some beginner video lessons. Song xpress makes some I think.

Thanks. I have a Fender sample vid that came with the guitar set that talked about fingers landing at the same time. I got the full version but haven't used it much yet. I'm using the books first then the vid and in between, just strumming with some songs I want to learn. I'd like to get a hold of something to teach me strumming patterns.

LadyVendettaAngel, those books seem to be helping, glad to know you are playing. Sometimes watching another guitar player helps, youtube may help with that.

I went through all three, from the first page to the last.

I'm happy with my progress, nothing to compare to but I feel I've progressed and learned a lot.

I've moved on to their intro to blues book and a book with blues songs in it as well. Learned a lot from them as well, still working on the blues songs.

I picked up the bass edition and so far it is pretty good.
