Forty years ago, who would have thought that a 67 year old Beatle would still be writing and selling music as well as performing at arenas and stadiums around the world.

The same with Clapton, Beck...is there something in the water over there in the U.K.?

I read some snippets of this on the Gibson site recently. I seem to recall that Clapton mentioned a concert that would have been the Beatles first reunion before John died but I don't remember which one it was. It seems to me John couldn't make it to that concert

There certainly is - it's called hair dye! Clapton doesn't seem to be drinking that particular water, but what about Macca and Beck...?

Anyway, thanks for the link, Mike. So happens I heard the radio interview they mention where McCartney talked about buying six inch nails in B&Q, a large hardware store that was very pleased with the name-check. In the same interview he also was saying he has very little interest in the gear side of things. He said he was in a music store in the States and some guy asked him what strings he uses on his bass. He replied; "long shiny silver ones," much to the guy's disgust...

Cheers - C

Macca still has that old school wit...

Maybe Clapton does use it too (hair dye), but doesn't do as good a job. :?:

Miami thanks again for finding a little gem and posting. After reading 5 reviews on the shows he did here in the states and the one at Citi Field which were all rave reviews in voice and playing he is just a marvel. The greatest band there ever was or ever will be. I am glad Paul is a happy guy once again as I was always a 50-50 John and Paul Beatles fan, and the fact was if they were just in the same room it was magic as even when they were not writing as a team anymore on countless songs they still helped each other out maybe by changing a line or even a word. Neither was better than the other but wrote from different views. There was a time when Pauls star shined a little brighter and vice a versa. I say this with being as big a Beatle fan as one can be but when John was murdered suddenly Paul started taking some lumps which to me was unfair. Truthfully some of Johns solo stuff was far from his best besides you had the wacko Yoko getting her share of the albums. God forbid but the day Paul reunites with John things will be even again. Is it really 9 years since George left us, boy time flies. The ultimate team playing lead guitarist, short and perfect riffs and solos that played totally to the song with no ego involved. Besides as his solo work showed one of the greatest slide players ever. I could only sum up his slide tone as sweet.

Thanks for posting Mike, always liked the Beatles, Paul seemed to be the free spirit of the band.

 Or maybe Eric is just a bit more subtle about it?

I kinda want to sit Jeff and Paul down and tell 'em: "Fellas, WE CAN TELL!"

Still. Minoxidil obviously works, huh?

lol...yeah, I've noticed that too.

Seems to be several big name aging stars that use the hair dye and don't use the razor blades.

My dad's lifelong best friend lives just round the corner from Jeff Beck (true).

He says he regularly sees a big 12 wheel tanker delivering hair dye to the Beck household (maybe not quite so true)...

Cheers - C

Haha - well if they do I don't know about it. My dad's friend is into trad jazz trumpet playing and hadn't a clue who this friendly local he sometimes talks to is, though he noticed the guy has a thing for loud hotrodded cars. My dad explained who Jeff Beck is, but he's not very interested. Which probably makes him an ideal neighbor from Jeff's point of view!

And this really is true also: my father-in-law was a travelling rep for a company and one night in the '70s found himself at the bar in an anonymous hotel somewhere. He spent the evening drinking and chatting quietly with a nice, civilised chap who looked a bit odd but was very charming. Not knowing anything about rock it was only at the end of the evening that the barman mentioned to him; "You know who that was do you? Ozzy Osbourne." "Who?" said my pa-in-law.

'Bout the time of the bat incident, this was... True story.

Cheers - C

Very interesting and I believe that you are correct about him being an ideal neighbor from Jeff's point of view.

The point I was getting at was if Jeff was sharing any of the dye with Ozzy or others who obviously....might.....'definitely maybe' own stock.

Have always been a big fan of the Beatles. Made it to their last ever concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
