There is only one thing I would add to all the good advice given here, pratice with your son from time to time. Could be a great bonding tool.

as i startet with 27 i had no pc and internet. i started with books for the first year and then i took lessons at a music school.

Everyone here has been right where you are, and could you get better -of course. The only disadvantage is time, anyone of us that played as teenagers had nothing but time on our hands. I also believe an adult mind can grasp things better. If you could manage an hour a day and more when circumstances permit in 2 years you will be shocked. Also buy the cheapest recorder you can, I still use a $15 cassette player and tape when you play and you will see the strides you are making.
