So...I have been looking for a tube amp for some time now. I've been trying to justify buying a low powered head and cab for it but that set up runs about $800-900 here so I put it on the back burner. I ran into a customer of mine today who's looking to sell his 100W Crate tube combo amp with 2x12 Celestion speakers in it for $350. Now I play strictly at home so obviously this is grossly overpowered for what I will ever use it for but you can plug heads into this cab from what I understand which is a big feature for me. I'm figuring that at the very least I can have a bigger cab than I can afford and big power at my fingertips if I need it later on. I'd still like to get a low powered head later on and make use of the built in cab on this baby. What do you guys think? Is my low volume playing going to render this beast useless to me until or does my train of thought make sense with the cab option?

i think youre on the right track. look into Omnisonic (find them on ebay). they are simply volume pots you run thru your effects loop. i have one for my deville and 60watts, with volume on 8 and master on 4, plus this volume pot, is just fine for my 2 bedroom apt.

even my wife likes it! <---------this is a big deal for me.

At 350 you're pretty close to getting a nice Fender blues jr. etc. I'd keep looking but Crate is a pretty solid band.
